THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER Director Shares Possible Spinoff Suggestions; New "Legacy Of Thor" Featurette Released

Thor: Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi has shared his take on which characters from the movie could potentially star in a spinoff, while a new featurette explores the God of Thunder's MCU legacy.

Thor: Love and Thunder is nearly here, but where does the franchise go next? We haven't seen this movie yet, but there has already been a lot of chatter about whether director Taika Waititi and star Chris Hemsworth could reunite for Thor 5. It's possible Jane Foster's Mighty Thor will take the Odinson's place, of course, but there's an entire cast of characters here to focus on.

Any one of them could potentially hold their own in a spinoff movie or TV show, which Waititi acknowledged during a recent interview with Fandom's Eric Goldman

"I'd love to see a Valkyrie spinoff," he revealed. "A Korg spinoff would be good as well."

No future plans for either character have been revealed quite yet, though when Valkyrie is so popular among MCU fans, we're shocked she hasn't already started kicking ass in a Disney+ series. Throw in the fact that she's one of this world's only LGBTQ+ superheroes, and there's really no reason why New Asgard's King couldn't claim the spotlight on the big or small screen.

We'll see what happens and whether anything is announced at Comic-Con. For now, though, Marvel Studios has also released a new featurette looking back at Thor's MCU journey.

Check it out in the players below:

The movie finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor.

Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.

Directed by Taika Waititi, the movie stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Christian Bale, Tessa Thompson, Russell Crowe, Jaimie Alexander, Chris Pratt, Karen Gillan, and Sean Gunn among others.

Thor: Love and Thunder is set to be released in theaters on July 8, 2022.

I think a Korg and Meik animated series would be a good fit.

Oh no, a female potentially getting a spin-off!? MSheU and ''go woke, go broke'' crowd about to go wild.

Anyway, I don't really wanna see a Valkyrie or Korg spin-off, but I do wanna see them show up in other stuff outside of the Thor franchise.

What a wholesome video, Thor's journey has been one of my favourites in the MCU, since he is always been my favourite Marvel character right next to Cap, he is one of the characters i feel more related to in the MCU as someone who's suffered a lot of personal loss and is trying to rebuild at this point. Got my tickets already, can't wait for july 7th.

Regarding any spin off, i'd love to have a Korg spin off, with different Marvel characters each episode.Tho they would need to give Korg a good reason to go into a personal journey of his own.

"Valkyrie is gay! She has Got to have her own show, or movie, or both!"

Is anyone else getting tired of "all-LGBTQXYZ, all the time" and/or endless gender swapping?

@knomad - I personally don't neccessarily need it, but it doesn't bother me, and it pisses off the right people. So yeah, I'd be totally fine if the LGBTQIA+ representation was (at least half) as prevalent as you guys fantasize it to already be.

"Is anyone else getting tired of 'it', all the time"

A majority of the audience is honestly, preaching to the choir. Representation in media has been achieved and its as hollow, shallow and corporate as people expected it to be. It's often offensive, stereotypical or used in an attempt to manipulate the audience into watching through insults or guilt tripping.

Preaching to the choir was all the movies had to sell them - people are realizing that now which is why we are seeing more bait & switch marketting. If you step forward talking about your political viewpoints and the sexual ideology you are pushing in your movie - then it's now a fairly consistent sign that your movie has nothing else going for it.

It's a contributing factor to why Top Gun: Maverick ruled the box office and will be the 2nd highest grossing movie of the year (Behind Avatar 2) - people go to the movies for escapism and to be entertained, not to be preached to.

At the end of the day your fellow human is generally ambivalent towards whatever you do as long as it does not impact them directly.

------------

As for why Black Panther 2 probably won't surpass Top Gun: Maverick, the simple reality is that it lost its lead actor who was the primary appeal of the previous film. Even if they fill it with cameos and exploit his death in the movie for the sake of sympathy viewers it's not going to have the same reach the previous movie had. In addition it faces tougher competition and releases during what many expect to be a time of financial crisis.

@Scarilian - got to say, for black panther 2 that's something a lot of people didn't really consider. Sure they chose not to recast out of respect, but the fact is its still gonna heavily rely on tchalla being gone, meaning they're still gonna make bank off of his death one way or the other with this film.

@knomad - It's doesn't mean that much to me to even give a flying f#ck about it. It's all entertainment to me, and I'm NOT going to get worked up about it, as it's a valuable waste of time end energy.

Besides, there are more important things to waste our time and energy getting worked up about.

Korg is fine as a supporting character. He doesn’t need a series or movie.

Korg? YES
Valkyrie? they should give her a personality first, "angry LGBT black token" is not a personality, and we know Tessa can act.
As good of a writter Taika is, female characters always work better when written by women, so maybe Valkyrie's situation could improve under with female writter...or maybe Taika did a great job with her in Love & Thunder, and I should STFU.
TheHumanSpider2
TheHumanSpider2 - 6/28/2022, 9:29 AM
@LSHF - Maybe Tessa is an actress and not a writter. Maybe Tessa is under contract and has to do whatever the studio wants. Maybe the studio demands scenes she shot being deleted.

Let's see how well the film does financially before they start teasing spin-off's that people may not be interested in
