Thor: Love and Thunder is nearly here, but where does the franchise go next? We haven't seen this movie yet, but there has already been a lot of chatter about whether director Taika Waititi and star Chris Hemsworth could reunite for Thor 5. It's possible Jane Foster's Mighty Thor will take the Odinson's place, of course, but there's an entire cast of characters here to focus on.
Any one of them could potentially hold their own in a spinoff movie or TV show, which Waititi acknowledged during a recent interview with Fandom's Eric Goldman.
"I'd love to see a Valkyrie spinoff," he revealed. "A Korg spinoff would be good as well."
No future plans for either character have been revealed quite yet, though when Valkyrie is so popular among MCU fans, we're shocked she hasn't already started kicking ass in a Disney+ series. Throw in the fact that she's one of this world's only LGBTQ+ superheroes, and there's really no reason why New Asgard's King couldn't claim the spotlight on the big or small screen.
We'll see what happens and whether anything is announced at Comic-Con. For now, though, Marvel Studios has also released a new featurette looking back at Thor's MCU journey.
Check it out in the players below:
The movie finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor.
Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.
Directed by Taika Waititi, the movie stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Christian Bale, Tessa Thompson, Russell Crowe, Jaimie Alexander, Chris Pratt, Karen Gillan, and Sean Gunn among others.
Thor: Love and Thunder is set to be released in theaters on July 8, 2022.
