Thor: Love and Thunder has all the makings of this year's best movie, and while that may sound like hyperbole, remember that we're talking about the same filmmaker who saved the God of Thunder back in 2018 with Thor: Ragnarok. Before that, the Asgardian ran the risk of falling into obscurity, especially after so-so roles in the Avengers movies and even his own sequel.
Now, the first clip from Thor's latest movie has been released, and it shows the Odinson and Korg observing Jane Foster from afar. The Kronan points out that "Jodie" Foster is not only the hero's ex-girlfriend, but she's wielding his ex-hammer, Mjolnir, to boot!
Talking to Variety, Natalie Portman opened up on her MCU return and admitted she "didn't really know" if she'd ever reprise the role after 2013's Thor: The Dark World. "They don’t often make more than three films in a series," the actor says with a shrug. "I feel like it’s the phase of my career where I’m really trying to just impress my kids."
"My 5-year-old and my 10-year-old were so enthralled by this process, getting to visit the set and see me dressed up in a cape. It made it really cool," Portman continued. "You know, it’s very rare that my kids are like, 'Please go to work!' Usually, it’s quite the opposite."

The movie finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor.
Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.
Directed by Taika Waititi, the movie stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Christian Bale, Tessa Thompson, Russell Crowe, Jaimie Alexander, Chris Pratt, Karen Gillan, and Sean Gunn among others.
Thor: Love and Thunder is set to be released in theaters on July 8, 2022.
