THOR: LOVE & THUNDER Director Taika Waititi To Helm Adaptation Of Sci-Fi Graphic Novel THE INCAL

Taika Waititi seems to be determined to attach his name to as many projects as possible, as the Thor: Love and Thunder director has now signed on to helm an adaptation of Alejandro Jodorowsky's The Incal.

Taika Waititi is fast becoming one of the most highly sought-after - not to mention hardest working - filmmakers in Hollywood. Currently juggling several different projects as director, he recently found time to play the villain in the upcoming Free Guy, and is also the process of developing his mysterious Star Wars movie for Disney/Lucasfilm.

Now, the prolific actor/director has signed on to helm a feature adaptation of Alejandro Jodorowsky and Moebius' cult '70s graphic novel, The Incal.

The Incal tells the story of "shabby P.I. John Difool, who happens upon a mystical artifact known as the Incal — an object of great power coveted by many factions across the galaxy. As Difool learns of the Incal’s powers and purpose, he — along with a ragtag crew of unlikely cohorts — reluctantly embarks on what begins as an improbable mission to save the universe, and slowly becomes a spiritual journey examining the duality and meaning of existence."

Waititi will also pen the script along with What We Do in the Shadows and Flight of the Conchords collaborator Jemaine Clement and Peter Warren.

“The films and graphic novels of Alejandro Jodorowsky have influenced me and so many others for so long. I was stunned to be given the opportunity to bring his iconic characters to life and I am grateful to Alejandro, Fabrice and everyone at Humanoids for trusting me to do so,” said Waititi.

What do you guys make of this news? Any fans of the graphic novel out there? Check out a video the folks at Humanoids were good enough to share with us below.

Taika's also doing Tower of Terror apparently, so this man is the definition of booked and busy

Still hope we get to see his AKIRA one day

So...is his Akira just officially dead now? He keeps taking on projects instead of Akira, which is weird since he's apparently a fan of it.

@Origame - I bet he took Akira so that it'll never get made and he's stalling it as long as he can lol

@heisei24 - interesting theory but I don't think it'll work.

So ANOTHER movie about magical MacGuffins?

Haven't read the graphic novel, so I'm not familiar with the story. It sounds interesting though, and since it's Taika (and Clement) I'll definitely give a try.

Wonder when we get to see his Michael Fassbender football movie and his Akira movie.

I was just wondering when they´re gonna make the Metabarons into a series to cash-in into the "dark superheroes" trend started by the boys at amazon

Now that I've seen some panels and people being very positive about it here in the comments, I really do feel like I should start reading this ASAP

I've heard of this comic but haven't read it but the stylized artwork would be a good fit for Taika especially after Ragnarok. With him doing Star Wars, Tower of Terror, and now this, I'm pretty sure his planned Akira movie will continue to get pushed back unless WB gives it to another director. The development cycle of that movie is never ending and I thought Taika would be the one to finally get it off the ground.

I don't know the source too much other than the name, but Taika is probably my favorite director working today and this looks an AMAZING novel, and looks like it fits Taika 100%.

Sign me up, i'll be there day one!

If he hires the right visual designers, this is going to be absolutely stunning. I've been reading comics on and off for 30-some years and Moebius is an absolute genius.
