Idris Elba was never utilised quite as well as he probably should have been in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Given only minor roles in Thor and Thor: The Dark World, his character Heimdall finally got some screentime in Thor: Ragnarok only to be killed off in the opening few minutes of Avengers: Infinity War!
The actor is doing pretty well for himself, though, because a new season of Luther is on the way and he'll be butting heads with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Jason Statham as the lead villain in Fast and Furious spinoff, Hobbs and Shaw.
It's also been confirmed today that the 46-year-old has been named 2018's Sexiest Man Alive by PEOPLE Magazine. Asked how he felt to receive this title, he said: "I was like, ‘Come on, no way. Really?’ Looked in the mirror, I checked myself out. I was like, ‘Yeah, you are kind of sexy today.’ But to be honest, it was just a nice feeling. It was a nice surprise — an ego boost for sure."
Some fans believe that Elba could return as Heimdall in Avengers 4 in order to tie into a sequence in Avengers: Age of Ultron but that remains strictly speculation for the time being.
