STAR TREK BEYOND Actor Karl Urban Comments On His 'Skurge The Executioner' Role In Marvel's THOR: RAGNAROK

Urban doesn't give too much away, but he does express his excitement at being cast as the villainous Skurge in the Thor threequel, and pretty much confirms that he'll be going bald for the role...

When the full cast list for Thor: Ragnarok was revealed the other day, there was a lot of buzz around the fact that Karl Urban (Dredd, Star Trek Beyond, The Lord Of The Rings) had been cast as fan-favourite Asgardian hard-case, Skurge the Executioner.

This is a character fans have been hoping to see go up against the God of Thunder since the first Thor movie was announced, and now they'll finally get to see it happen - with a great actor in the role to boot. IGN caught up with Urban and asked him about his decision to sign on to play the villain in the Marvel threequel.

"I read a fantastic script that was action-packed and full of great characters. When I heard who was involved -- and the cast list dropped yesterday -- and [saw] the opportunity to work with [director] Taika Waititi, who I think is one of the most brilliant directors coming through, I made the decision it was something that I wanted to be a part of.

And the character is fantastic. He's got a great arc to him. Obviously I can't say too much about it, but I'm really thrilled to be a part of the Marvel universe and to be working on Thor: Ragnarok."

Though usually portrayed as a foe of Thor's in the comics, Skurge did memorably team-up with the good guys to help them stop the destruction of Asgard, and actually sacrificed himself so that his new comrades could escape.

Can we expect a similar arc for the character in Thor: Ragnarok? Urban remained tight-lipped about that - and how many movies he's signed on for - but he did offer up another interesting tidbit relating to his Marvel deal. “Suffice to say,” laughed Urban, “I have it in my contract that I don't have to shave my head until after my Star Trek press!”

Thor: Ragnarök hits theaters November 3, 2017.
