"When do we start?" says Loki while he is in prison at the end of the current
Thor: The Dark World teaser trailer.
Doesn't it sound like Loki is already manipulating others for his own dastardly scheme? You bet! Just look at his facial expression and body language in the above image. It screams that he's been waiting for that moment to occur and for someone to need his help. Something is up, for sure.
Loki was lurking in the shadows playing sides against each other in
Thor, by being at Odin's side for Asgard and by helping the Frost Giants. Loki has his own agenda in everything he does. He lied to Thor saying that Odin was dead while his half-brother was exiled on Migard. Even in
The Avengers, Loki may have been working for Thanos but he had his own plan if he were to beat the Avengers.
Hypothetically, if his invasion of New York City had been a success, Loki might have just battled Thanos himself with the one power Thanos desired to get his own hands on.... the Tesseract. (And who's to say a Loki-Thanos showdown isn't in a future Marvel movie, just sayin'.)
That's all speculation, yes, but it's also Loki and he is not to be trusted by anyone. He is the God of Mischief for very good (technically bad) reasons and so far Marvel Studios has been able to capture his character brilliantly.
Now that Loki is back in Asgard and serving his punishment for his crimes in
Thor and
The Avengers. This leads us to
Thor: The Dark World. Loki is most likely playing all sides once again. Thor, Odin and even Malekith could all be part of his new master plan. Let's face the facts in that he's had some alone time to come up with a new plan while in prison.
Desperate men are known to do desperate things and Loki will most definitely do anything to get what he wants. Malekith and his Dark Elves could be his new pawns in a bigger scheme that Loki will hatch once he is free from the confines of his Asgardian cell.
In the comic book universe when Malekith the Accursed is first introduced, he and Loki are working together. Obviously Marvel Studios' movies are an adaptation of the comics and Marvel takes liberties in changing around its characters. But anything is possible when you are talking about a powerful and selfish person like Loki. Even to the point where he may work with Malekith, like in the comics, until Loki gets what Loki wants.
You've been warned Malekith.
