Arguably the biggest announcement at Comic-Con on Saturday was the news that Natalie Portman is returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe to play Jane Foster/Thor in Taika Waititi's Thor: Love and Thunder. That's going to be a game-changer for franchise, and the actress has now responded to the news on her Instagram account.

As you can see, she's promised to get "jacked" to play the new God of Thunder and says we should treat her Comic-Con appearance as a "before" photo as she looks to get into MCU shape.

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, meanwhile, has also commented on the news and explains why Waititi wanted to bring this version of Thor to the big screen. "We love the story -- it's one of the best comic runs recently," he says. "[Director Taika Waititi] would flip through and read that run while he was doing 'Ragnarok.' And I think when he agreed to come back and do another Thor, he was like, 'How do we--?' This is a very big movie that'll be folding in a lot of elements."

"That is a huge important part of it. He pitched it to us, and we were totally in. We loved it. We'd been in touch with Natalie. She's part of the MCU family and we put she and Taika together. It took one meeting and she agreed to do it."

Needless to say, this movie is shaping up to be something special, but seeing as it's not set to be released until next November, it's obviously going to be a while before we see Jane as Thor!

Should have made Sif the MCU female Thor, MCU Jane is okay at best.......but if Kevin Feige has faith in her, ill give it a chance, maybe they can turn her around

Well, I guess that answers that. Maybe they're going to give her CG steroids, too, but she doesn't sound like she wants to come back as an emaciated chemo-patient. I don't think I'm ready for yoked Amidala.

@Spock0Clock - If they're going the cancer route, maybe they'll use CGI to reduce her weight like the did to pre-SSS Steve and Endgame prelude Tony.

This is the only movie I'm not down with. The other announcements clouded me yesterday but this is now starting to hit me, man.

I'm not looking forward to Taika making fun of everything again, stripping Thor down to nothing again (as if he hasn't been completely already), Hemsworth playing himself again, Natalie coming back or just Jane in general.

@Kurne - yeah, and i have no idea what they can do here. Asgard is completely destroyed. And new asgard is just a random village on earth. Sure you can go exploring the other realms, but since its treated as more or less other planets its really just gonna be another guardians film (as if thats not what ragnarok was).

@Kurne - YES. Went from Thor Ragnarok, Infinity War, to Beer Drinking Fat Thor to Losing his Hammer to Jane. Sure not the Thor 4 movie I expected :) Ha Ha. This movie is last on my list.

“It took one meeting and she agreed to do it.”

So much for that “Portman is reluctant to work with Marvel again” narrative people have been spewing for years.

@PlusUltra - Or she realized how much better the franchise has become thanks to Waititi. We all know the first 2 really werent that great...plus they probably offered her a shit ton of money

@PlusUltra - Well she just had a small, almost forgettable, pre taped, throw away cameo in a movie that is currently the most successful film in history due to the fact she was on her "no more Marvel" soap box. She realized maybe she was a little hasty

@NinnesMBC - hope so. Because her first two performances as Jane sucked.

This before X-Men and FF?
Maybe I'm wrong but I just don't see this doing more than Antman.
