Will Jane Foster be the new female Thor? Vote here and discuss.
(Reuters) - Comic book superhero character Thor, who first appeared in 1962 and is based on the Norse hammer-wielding god, will now be a woman, publisher Marvel Comics said on Tuesday.
The publisher said the female Thor is an effort to bring new readers and to appeal to women and girls, whom Marvel said have long been ignored in comics.
It will be the biggest change to its three largest comic characters, Captain America, Iron Man and Thor, according to Marvel.
Hey guys, just a quick thought here. Anyone that's been consitently reading Marvel's main Thor title for the past year or so knows that Thor's main love interest, Jane Foster, has been suffering with cancer.
It wouldn't be that farfetched to posit that Thor might consider giving his hammer and immortality to Jane, just for the time it takes to find a cure for her ailments. This would be plausible if the cancer was related to some sort of Asgardian radiation, perhaps given off by the Destroyer, or by Thor himself. There is a precedent for Jane to wield Thor's powers, as in the image below:
Jane is a headstrong woman and would be reluctant to accept unnatural help, but it's conceivable that she and Thor work out some sort of deal to let Jane survive while Thor's alter-ego, Dr Donald Blake, searches for a way to save Jane!
