RICK AND MORTY: Here's Why Adult Swim Won't Reveal The Show's New Leads Until The Premiere

Justin Roiland is no longer part of Rick and Morty and a recent trailer revealed the new voices of the title characters. Why don't we know who's playing them? An Adult Swim insider shares an explanation...

Yesterday, Adult Swim released a new trailer for Rick and Morty season 7 which finally revealed how both characters will sound now that original star and co-creator Justine Roiland is no longer part of the hit animated series.

The response has been largely positive, mostly because whoever has replaced him as the show's leads sounds almost identical. Some fans have pointed out they don't sound exactly the same as the cadence is different, but after ten episodes, we're sure the new lead/s will have cemented their place as Rick and Morty.

Roiland's time as part of the critically acclaimed series ended when a string of damaging allegations were made by women about alleged sexual misconduct. That came after the prolific voice actor was charged with domestic violence (those charges were ultimately dropped but the floodgates opened and his reputation was ruined).

Later, we'd learn the plan was to replace Roiland with "soundalikes" and, now we've heard them, it's clear Rick and Morty's creative team wasn't kidding. So, why do we still not know who is playing them?

The Hollywood Reporter (via SFFGazette.com) recently spoke to an Adult Swim insider who says, "We want the show to speak for itself. We believe in the strength of the season and our new voices and we want to preserve the viewing experience for fans."

This is also a clever way to get people to tune in as they'll be keen to see whose name comes up when the credits roll! We're honestly a little shocked the voices were revealed in advance, but hearing them today has definitely got fans talking.

Adult Swim previously shared episode titles and synopses for season 7, but they're frustratingly vague (and undeniably hilarious). You can check those out below.

"How Poopy Got His Poop Back" – Broh, Come Out With Us, You're Being So Boring Dude
"The Jerrick Trap" – Gotta be mindful Broh, big brain stuff here.
"Air Force Wong" – Virigina is For Lovers Broh
"That's Amorte" – Broh, That's-A Some Good Spaghetti
"Unmortricken" – Rick And Morty Wilding Out, Broh. They getting up to stuff.
"Rickfending Your Mort" – Gotta keep those receipts, Dawg.
"Wet Kuat Amortican Summer" – High School, Broh. Morty and Summer hang out in this one.
"Rise of the Numbericons: The Movie" – Action! Adventure! It's a whole movie, Broh!
"Mort: Ragnarick" – Heaven is for real, Broh. I saw it, Broh, I swear.
"Fear no Mort" -Only thing to fear is fear itself, Broh.

"Rick and Morty are back and sounding more like themselves than ever!" reads the official synopsis. "It's season seven, and the possibilities are endless: What's up with Jerry? EVIL Summer?! And will they ever go back to the high school?! Maybe not! But let's find out!"

"There's probably less piss than last season," it comically continues. "'Rick and Morty,' 100 years! Or at least until season 10!"

Rick and Morty season 7 premieres on Adult Swim on October 15.

I'm still hoping it's because they got different actors for each episode. Think that could be funny. It's a multiverse story anyway

Rick sounds pretty damn close, but a little off. Morty sounded like someone trying to do their best Morty impersonation.

@PatientXero - agreed, Rick sounds spot on, but dips lower for some lines in the trailer.

Morty sounds good; but off for some reason I can pinpoint.

It’s interesting reading comments from everywhere; there’s no consensus! Some people think Morty is perfect but Rick sounds off.

I think that means it’ll be all right. Long as the writing is good & funny; we’ll all be used to the new voices.

As long as the writing is good and the characters sound close enough it's all going to be fine. The trailer does have me excited for Season 7.

Today's upside down world.

Allegations happen. Accused is crucified. Due process and guilt no longer matter.

@ShellHead -

Yeah, remember that when you get fired from work for something you were accused of, but did not do.

It would be hilarious if it was just Justin and the crew didnt want to replace him so he just does the voices different.

They were close enough for me to not complain. Solar Opposites went in a completely different direction and although I got use to it by the end of the season for a while it was really throwing me off.
