Yesterday, Adult Swim released a new trailer for Rick and Morty season 7 which finally revealed how both characters will sound now that original star and co-creator Justine Roiland is no longer part of the hit animated series.
The response has been largely positive, mostly because whoever has replaced him as the show's leads sounds almost identical. Some fans have pointed out they don't sound exactly the same as the cadence is different, but after ten episodes, we're sure the new lead/s will have cemented their place as Rick and Morty.
Roiland's time as part of the critically acclaimed series ended when a string of damaging allegations were made by women about alleged sexual misconduct. That came after the prolific voice actor was charged with domestic violence (those charges were ultimately dropped but the floodgates opened and his reputation was ruined).
Later, we'd learn the plan was to replace Roiland with "soundalikes" and, now we've heard them, it's clear Rick and Morty's creative team wasn't kidding. So, why do we still not know who is playing them?
The Hollywood Reporter (via SFFGazette.com) recently spoke to an Adult Swim insider who says, "We want the show to speak for itself. We believe in the strength of the season and our new voices and we want to preserve the viewing experience for fans."
This is also a clever way to get people to tune in as they'll be keen to see whose name comes up when the credits roll! We're honestly a little shocked the voices were revealed in advance, but hearing them today has definitely got fans talking.
Adult Swim previously shared episode titles and synopses for season 7, but they're frustratingly vague (and undeniably hilarious). You can check those out below.

"Rick and Morty are back and sounding more like themselves than ever!" reads the official synopsis. "It's season seven, and the possibilities are endless: What's up with Jerry? EVIL Summer?! And will they ever go back to the high school?! Maybe not! But let's find out!"
"There's probably less piss than last season," it comically continues. "'Rick and Morty,' 100 years! Or at least until season 10!"
Rick and Morty season 7 premieres on Adult Swim on October 15.
