RICK AND MORTY Writer Ryan Ridley Shares An Update On The Status Of Season 4, And It Could Be A While

Ryan Ridley, one of the writers of the hit Adult Swim show Rick and Morty, recently addressed the status of the show's upcoming fourth season, and from the sounds of it, we could be waiting a long time...

Ryan Ridley has a pretty straightforward message for Rick and Morty creators Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland.

"Get your shit together, you guys!"

Ridley, a writer for the show, appeared on The Detroit Cast and talked about how season 4 isn't exactly on the fast track. He said new episodes won't be coming anytime soon:

"As far as I know, no one is working on the show, I'm certainly not. So I don't know what's going on, I haven't heard anything. Yeah, they really take their time, I've never understood why everybody...didn't get their sh*t together and make the show fast, I just don't get it."

While this isn't encouraging news for fans, Ridley later said that he thinks a new season is coming at some point.

"I'd be surprised if there was a fourth season on the air any sooner than 2019, late 2019."

Ridley has been involved with the show since the first episode, voicing Frank, the bully Rick freezes when he pulls Morty out of school. He even worked with Justin Roiland on The Grandma's Virginity Podcast before Rick and Morty came along.

He also talked about the challenges of trying to come up with original ideas when there are so many other shows out there.

"It's hard. You basically have to keep mutating the idea until it's a different enough species that people go like, 'Oh, I didn't even think of that."

Maybe next year we'll see if all the time the showrunners are taking results in some fresh, new ideas.

I love the show, but I will never tell anyone that in person. I refuse to be lumped into that fan base.

@SmellofDuty - Same here. It's a shame those morons who harass McDonalds employees over nugget sauce have ruined the show for some people.

They tend to have maybe 3 perfect episodes per season and they rest are merely great. "The Ricklantis Mix-up" was not only the best episode of season 3, but arguably the best episode of the entire series. Let them take their time. You can't pump this out.

@MarkV - The show needs something new, Season 3 wasnt bad, but it could have been better, maybe bring in Dan's friend, Alex Hirsch to work on the series, he did create a show just as good, if not better than Rick and morty

Hopefully its better than season 3, season 3 wasnt bad, but only a few of the episodes were really memorable. Dan Harmon should try to bring in his friend Alex Hirsch who created a show that is even better than Rick and Morty

also if its going to be a long wait, how about take some time to do the movie for his other show

I decided months ago to never comment on this site again because I was upset with the quality and general direction this site has gone. Especially josh articles. However, I had to comment on this. I was soooo prepared to hate this show because of all the crap I had heard. When I finally sat down and forced myself to finally check it out it was amazing. One of the best shows out there. Very funny on multiple levels. Can’t wait for the fourth season. Having said that I’ll return to my self imposed exhile. Happy new year everyone.

Love a good Rick & Morty article. It's always a great excuse to link my favorite scene from the series.

Even if you've never seen the show, this is 100% worth a watch.

@L0RDbuckethead - I always use it as an excuse to link a video of another great series, created by Dan Harmon's friend Alex Hirsch, Gravity Falls, which is just as good, possibly better than Rick and Morty
