MR. & MRS. SMITH Trailer Sees Donald Glover & Maya Erskine Getting Intimately Explosive; More Cast Revealed

After sharing a first look last month, Prime Video has debuted the official trailer for Mr. & Mrs. Smith, offering an intimately explosive preview of the brand-new series that will be a modern-day reimagining of the 2005 film of the same name, starring 2x Primetime Emmy-winner Donald Glover (CommunityAtlanta) and 3x Primetime Emmy-nominee Maya Erskine (PEN15; Obi-Wan Kenobi) in the title roles as John and Jane Smith, respectively.

The new trailer teases much of the action-packed mayhem and romance to come as these two strangers are partnered up and must navigate a world of espionage while simultaneously trying to figure out their mutual attraction and the connection that binds them together, for better or worse.

The first season will consist of eight episodes, all set to be launched on the same day, exclusively on Prime Video, in over 240 countries and territories globally.

In addition to Glover and Erskine, the show will boast a star-studded supporting cast, consisting of Alexander Skarsgård, Eiza González, Sarah Paulson, Sharon Horgan, Ron Perlman, Billy Campbell, Úrsula Corberó, Paul Dano, Michaela Coel, John Turturro, Parker Posey, and Wagner Moura.

However, while same in name, the new series will be a slight departure from the Doug Liman-directed action-thriller that starred Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. The show's synopsis reads, "In this version of Mr. & Mrs. Smith, two lonely strangers land jobs working for a mysterious spy agency that offers them a glorious life of espionage, wealth, world travels, and a dream brownstone in Manhattan. The catch? New identities in an arranged marriage as Mr. and Mrs. John and Jane Smith. Now hitched, John and Jane navigate a high-risk mission every week while also facing a new relationship milestone. Their complex cover story becomes even more complicated when they catch real feelings for each other. What’s riskier: espionage or marriage?"

Mr. and Mrs. Smith starts streaming on February 2, 2024!

@DrReedRichards - Water is wet and some mother[frick]ers are just cooler than everyone else. He's one of them.

Shoulda made him James Bond instead of Daniel Craig. There. I said it.

Wouldn't say instead, since I'm more than happy with Craig's entries, but I also welcome Elba to be the next one. He certainly doesn't look his age.

@DrReedRichards - Fair enough. I wasn't in love with the last couple of Craig's but that could be said for almost every Bond ever. Elba is just [frick]ing money.

And first glance, I would say BARF!

Taking TV funny guy Glover seriously is difficult to do, but I know a lot of his followers do love him.

At second glance, double BARF!

looks good and primed to make the usual suspects angry about woke agendas.

@supermanrex - One might actually say that the only way to make this believable as a relationship was to make it a psi op where they're forced to act married by their white patriarchal overlords who pay them to be in harm's way while remaining in the shadows but that would be silly.

@DarthAlgar - There are over 50 distinct types of sphincters in the human body, some of which function involuntarily, some respond to stimuli, some post on comicbookmovie.com and others are controlled voluntarily. Some sphincters are as large as a walnut, while others are microscopic.

Looks like another flop like Amazon/Russo Bros's Citadel this year. Hopefully they prove me wrong like the Tom Clancy shows.

Blergh - 12/7/2023, 3:58 PM
@mastakilla39 - I'm still stunned at Citadel's failure. Not because I thought it would suceed but because they had such an interesting concept for it with the international spin-offs coming.
Maybe one of the spin-offs will succeed where the american failed but I REALLY want to see the international versions now.

There's the italian version called "Citadel: Diana" coming out first and then there's supposed to be a Mexican and Indian version at least

@Blergh - was citadel any good? I actually didn't hear about it until right now.
Blergh

@Izaizaiza - nah, it was a pretty soapy action show with outlandish twists each episode. Rather uninspired and overly relying on hot actors in the front.
But I'd like to see other countries throw their hat in the ring

It's like that film with those really attractive, cool and engaging actors replaced with disinterested looking deadpan frumpy actors. But this time they're diverse... and "Hit different"

Clintthahamster
Clintthahamster - 12/7/2023, 3:28 PM
@DarthOmega - Ask any woman you know if they'd consider Donald Glover to be "frumpy." As for Maya Erskine, I'll thank you to keep my girlfriend's name out of your mouth.

@DarthOmega - I thought about that at first. I love Donald Glover, but he isn't a Brad Pitt type of actor. But the trailer sold me, I think both of the leads look extremely charming and they seem to sell the premise really well!
