After being rumored to direct Preacher, it is now confirmed that D.J. Caruso (Disturbia, Eagle Eye) will helm the long awaited adaptation for Columbia Pictures. Thanks to The Film Stage for finding this confirmation...

The story follows an ex-preacher man, Jesse, who has become disgusted with God’s abandoning of His responsibilities. So Jesse starts off into the wilds of Texas with his hitman girlfriend and new best friend (a vampire) to find God so that he can give Him a piece of his mind.

I'm not gonna say anything, but I have a feeling that if the movie is great, it's because DJ Caruso respects the source material.

If it sucks... I'm gonna blame Columbia.

I have flipped through a few of the Preacher comics in the store and they seemed way to vulgar for me to enjoy. My dad is a real preacher and it was kinda insulting. It just felt wrong.

@Intruder - I hope you're wrong. I hold Preacher at the top of my all time favorites. Watchmen at a steady second. He can't mess this up because Ror and myself will take action if he [frick]s this up.

I'm just happy we're finally getting a Preacher movie. Who do you guys want for Jesse?

Preacher Fan Cast

My fan cast for Preacher
Would have preferred a HBO series but even if this movie does badly, it might get some more publicity on the series leading to a better adaptation

Man really hope this is turns out to be wrong, really bad feeling about this. It really does need to be a series, way to much of a story for a movie and you know that just means that it will be dramatically changed which sucks.

Out of the three movies I know this guy has directed, I've only seen Disturbia. It wasn't good. Not totally terrible, but not good either. It started decent enough, but degenerated into formulaic bullshit by the end. I heard similar things about Eagle Eye. I haven't checked the B.O. scores for I Am Number Four, but it sounds like some of you have and the results aren't very promising. There are so many directors out there that could do great things with Preacher. Why would they pick a guy who's O for 3? Preacher is way too awesome to give to some mediocre filmmaker. Like most people on here, I agree that this property would make a much better tv series like Walking Dead. If he respects the source material, it might be okay. But I just want to know how respectful D.J. Caruso can be by squeezing the wealth of Preacher material into a 2 hour movie. I'm not really happy about the director or medium choice for this.

No he makes every movie all about visuals and forgets about character..maybe he'l stick a badly cgi'd bear or puma in there for good measure:)

Ah no, he's not BAD, but I wouldn't call him good either. Cap looks to be shaping up well but aside from Rocketeer I haven't really liked any of his movies. That's just my own opinion though.
