Preacher was a home-run for AMC. The new show pulled in 3 million viewers per episode, which is a lot for a new AMC original and cable. AMC reports the series has put itself on the map by becoming the 2nd biggest new drama of 2016, only behind FX's mega-hit show The People Vs  OJ Simpson.

When we announced plans for a TV adaptation of the iconic comic book ‘Preacher,’ the most consistent reaction – often, even, from existing fans – was, ‘There’s no way to do that story on television.’ Thanks to the vision, passion, smarts and guts of Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, Sam Catlin and the entire team on this show, we have just concluded a season of television that looks like nothing else I have ever seen on television,” said Charlie Collier, president of AMC, SundanceTV and AMC Studios. “Huge thanks and well done to the trio of Dominic Cooper, Ruth Negga and Joseph Gilgun, who are now leading a road trip unlike any other. And, of course, thank you again to our partners at Sony Pictures Television, Tom Cruise, and the creators of ‘Preacher,’ Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon, the latter simply for being so damned crazy in the first place. It is the time of the Preacher, and the story really has just begun.”

What did you think of the first season of Preacher? As always, be sure to leave your thoughts below.

Preacher returns for a second season at AMC in 2017.
Fulfilling a promise to his deceased father, one-time outlaw Jesse Custer returns home to West Texas to take over his dad's church. Jesse's mission, however, becomes twisted when his body is overcome by a cryptic force that unleashes within him a highly unconventional power. Together with hell-raising ex-girlfriend Tulip and Irish vagabond Cassidy, the preacher-in-training embarks on a journey to find God in a world inhabited by holy, hellish, and everything-in-between characters. The darkly comedic "Preacher" is based on Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon's popular 1990s comic book franchise of the same name. Executive producers include Sam Catlin ("Breaking Bad"), and Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg ("Superbad," "Neighbors").

Glad it's doing well, but honestly once I saw American Gods looking so good, I realized how much this series is sort of a trashier placeholder.

@Spock0Clock - You think they are gonna do, what, 3 seasons for American Gods or try and stretch it out to cash in on it.

@SendMoreIdiots - No clue. The production sounded troubled, though. It may be one and done.
