As reported earlier, Jon Bernthal has been cast as Shane. Now, Bloody Disgusting is reporting that his partner, Rick Grimes, is near completion in the casting department as well. Jonny Lee Miller (Aeon Flux, Dracula 2000, Eli Stone)is the network's top choice for the lead in The Walking Dead.

The story revolves around Shane,the partner and best friend of Bernthal's Grimes, as a police officer who leads a group of survivors of a zombie attack to safety. The pilot will be shooting in May and is being directed by Frank Darabont.

nice bud!!

i'm a little worried about that synopsis. i hope they just mean the PILOT centers around Shane. i'm sure thats what they mean. it would be cool if the pilot centered around Shane leading the survivors out of the city. (kind of like a prequel to the 1st issue.) and the if the show gets picked up, the first episode of season 1 could be Rick waking up in the hospital...THE HOSPITAL OF DEATH! MUAHAHAHAHAHA...sorry

Thanks CDB, I made sure to reference your earlier article. From what I know about this series is that anyone could die so hopefully its not centered around anyone specific. That will be a hard concept for TV folks to break though.

@muthatucker.. black and white would work perfect with the comic fans but i htink theyd probably make it color for those who haent grown familiar with the books.

@corndog.. i agree thats exactly what i thought.. shane should be in the first 2 episodes only depending on how they plan on sizing the episodes

@blankofthedead...the show is not going to fallow the book issue for issue whats the point of that? I read in the back of The walking dead issue 69 or 70 where kirkman said it wasnt going to be just like the book because everybody watching who reads the books would know everything that happens, plus that would be stupid to know shane gets killed episode 2 and rick get his hand chopped off in ep. 12 ect...ect..you could do a whole season leading up to shane going crazy and getting killed...p.s black and white and red would be legendary!!!!!!

yeah man, i appreciate that, i'm not a big stickler on my articles though. you won't hear me complain. they're just for fun, and if it gets news out to people, so be it. also, it IS true that anyone can die, but the story does still center around Rick Grimes. he's really the only one that you can bet won't die. but at the same time, sometime in the future, i can see Kirkman killing him off and letting his son take the spotlight. but who knows! :)

@maddizzle

yeah, they won't follow it issue to issue. but i think the main character should STILL be Rick, and it should still be the same BASIC story of him waking up in a hospital, and the drama between him and Shane and all that. and you're right, black and white with red blood would be killer!

Don't like Jonny Lee Miller as Rick. Look doesn't match. Basic attitude doesn't match.

My girl's brother looks EXACTLY like Shane in the comic. EXACTLY. Too bad he doesn't act.

I think Sharlto Copley should play Rick Grimes, he was freakin awesome in district 9, i think he'd be perfect for the role.
