The Walking Dead concluded with its eleventh season last year, but while the main series has ended, the franchise itself is far from dead. A number of spin-offs are on the way, including shows revolving around characters like Rick Grimes and Michonne, Daryl, and Negan and Maggie.
The latter is titled Dead City, and shooting wrapped up back in October. Now, the six-episode series is set to premiere on AMC sometime this April (we're still waiting for news on a confirmed premiere date).
The series looks set to reunite Maggie (Lauren Cohan, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Watchmen), enemies turned reluctant allies, after years apart. The action is set in New York City, hopefully meaning we can expect to explore a very different side of this post-apocalyptic wasteland.
Now, we have a synopsis (via FearHQ.com).
"Years have passed since we last saw Maggie and Negan and they must now form a tenuous alliance in order to accomplish a dangerous mission," it reads. "Maggie and Negan journey to the island of Manhattan, which, having been isolated since the beginning of the walker apocalypse, has developed its own unique threats."
"While in the city, Maggie and Negan encounter native New Yorkers, evade a marshal with a troubled past, and hunt down a notorious killer. But as the pair moves deeper into the gritty depths of the walker-infested city, it becomes apparent that the traumas of their tumultuous past may prove just as great a threat as the dangers of the present."
While the main series was running on fumes by the time those final seasons rolled around, this sounds like an enjoyable premise and one that should breathe new life into The Walking Dead franchise.
The cast also includes Gaius Charles as Perlie Armstrong, Željko Ivanek as The Croat, Jonathan Higginbotham as Tommaso, Mahina Napoleon as Ginny, Trey Santiago-Hudson as Jano, and Karine Ortiz as Amaia.
