AMC has finally announced a premiere date for The Walking Dead: Dead City, which is set to hit our screens on Sunday, June 18 at 10pm ET.

We also have a new teaser promo, and while it's only a few seconds long, it does reveal what leads to the surprising team-up between Maggie and Negan.

The footage sees Hershel, now played by Logan Kim, being dragged away, as his distraught mother tells the man that brutally murdered her husband that he's the "only one" that can get him back.

We're not sure who took Maggie's son or why Negan is needed for his rescue, but if a recently leaked set video is any indication, this truce is going to be short-lived!

Star Lauren Cohan appeared at a WonderCon event in Anaheim, California over the weekend, and was asked about the shaky alliance between these once bitter enemies.

“It’s interesting, because we see a very unprocessed level of trauma that we know happened between Maggie and Negan. In Dead City, we really get a chance to [ask], ‘What is this? What does it take to move through it?’ And more than anything, it’s a chance for us to be forced together on this mission. The tension and unmovable things are still very present. We’ve seen them intersect so often, but in this show, it’s really this tunnel that they’re trapped in to face things they may have run away from, more so what Maggie has run away from and what Negan‘s presence brings up for her. It’s like an exercise in intimacy with the worst person.”

This show really dragged down the zombie genre for me. It just went on too long. I even found myself watching the absolutely amazing Last of Us and feeling like too many character types and scenarios had been done already by the Walking Dead.

@mountainman - in the apocalypse you really can only have so many archetypes.
Cannibals
Rapists
Pirates

Standard fare for the end of the world. The truly vile are the ones that thrive in that chaos

@Vigor - Understood. It’s why I wasn’t harsh on Last of Us for having those archetypes. This genre is really about exploring the human condition and that show does it well. I liked the early seasons of Walking Dead but just checked out after a while.

I just want to bang Lauren Cohan.

Is that too much to ask?

@DocSpock - yes.

But we shall keep asking.

hopefully this one moves at a pace thats a little faster than the show that came before it.

Not the last of us fast, but definitely needs to hasten its story telling.

I stopped watching The Walking Dead like a decade ago😂, but this premise seems like a bad idea. I'd imagine they're gonna have the two leads eventually develop a romance, because of course. Would fans be open to that? I might give the show a shot though. I like Lauren Cohan, and apparently this franchise is the only place to watch her perform.

@99OPTIMISTPRIME - no way in hell would a woman fall in love with the man who senslessly clubbed her true love to death.

And they shall have a son and name him Bruce. But they will be gunned down by a zombie leading Bruce to become Zombieman.
