THE WALKING DEAD: [SPOILER] Is Still Clinging To Life In These First Images From The Midseason Premiere

The midseason finale of The Walked Dead marked one of its main characters for death, but as these first promo stills for the back-half of the season reveal, there's still a bit of life in [SPOILER] yet...

The closing moments of the recent midseason finale of The Walking Dead revealed that Carl Grimes had been bitten by a walker, and the location of the wound means that it's only a matter of time before he checks out.

Carl is still a major character in the comics and plays an integral role in many of the upcoming story arcs, so the controversial decision to kill him off on the show has led to quite a lot of backlash.

However, even though the brave lad's fate is most definitely sealed, these promo images prove that he still has a part to play before the end.

Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira) carry a still lucid Carl (Chandler Riggs) from the burning ruins of Alexandria.

Michonne became something of a surrogate mother to Carl, so after Rick, she will no doubt take his death the hardest.

Maggie (Lauren Cohan) still hasn't given birth (she's not even showing yet), but it looks like she'll be getting some parental practice in thanks to baby Grace.

Daryl (Norman Reedus) seems to be heading to a very dark place, so it'll be interesting to see if Carl's death brings him back from the brink, or pushes him further towards the abyss.

It looks like kindred spirits Carol (Melissa McBride) and Morgan (Lennie James) will be joining forces once again in an attempt to take down Negan for good.

We still don't know what Carl plans to do with his final few hours, but according to Riggs, the character will be leaving “behind a really long-lasting legacy.”.

Things do not look good for the born-again hard Ezekiel (Khary Payton) now that he's a prisoner of The Saviors. And to think, he was already on Negan's kill list.

Like Daryl, Maggie started down a dark path in the midseason finale, and as comic fans should be well aware, she will most likely keep walking when the show returns.

The fact that Morgan will be switching over to Fear The Walking Dead has led to speculation that his days may be numbered, and since nobody gets a happy ending on this show, that's definitely the most likely outcome. Let's just hope he goes out swinging.

Another shot of Carl. The Grimes boy started out as quite a divisive character on the show, but many fans seem to have warmed to him over the last couple of seasons.

And finally, EW's latest cover features Norman Reedus' Daryl with a cherry in his gob. Why? Why not!

Tell us, will you miss Carl? How do you think his final moments will play out? Sound off below.

I've always stood up for this show but man, it was hard to defend that last season. When the characters start to act live complete simpletons you know there's a big problem.

The first two seasons were good but this show has gone really downhill. The most unfortunate thing now is that they're dragging out the Negan storyline the same way they drew out the Governor storyline. You'd think the zombie apocalypse setting would give them ample opportunities for interesting villains. Truth be told, I didn't really like the comics after the battle at the prison either.
