ARROW: Here's Our Review Of Season 6 Episode 10 'Divided'

The mid-season premiere of Arrow puts original Team Arrow in a difficult position as they face challenges from the villains of the season and the issues of New Team Arrow

This episode has a fair bit of bad in it, from quality to storytelling, this entire season has been quite lacking. However, this episode should not be judged by the flaws of the previous episodes from this season. Do I believe this was a good episode? No, not really but it wasn't bad either. Like I said, there's some good and bad so lets get to it.

The issue of Team Arrow being divided at this point is boring but the writers do try to change it up this season by not choosing for Team Arrow to just get back on track after one episode of being separated. It seems this season they're really trying to dish out the fact that Team Arrow was fractured from the beginning of season 5 with Oliver not trusting the recruits with his secret identity. There's been this constant distrust between Oliver and the recruits. Except now it's Renee who causes the team to be fractured. My issue with this story is it easily feels like a subplot, not only that but it just doesn't interest me anymore. I don't really care about Renee, Curtis or Dinah and I don't see why I would. Oliver was right to enable surveillance on Renee and the other two, they broke his trust majorly and now they're acting like kids instead of taking responsibility. I get that's how the story is supposed to go but that doesn't mean it makes the story good, I used to like Renee and Dinah just a bit yet within an episode or two, the writers have made me hate them.

This entire season has been lacking in the aspect of a solid villain, and unfortunately this episode doesn't really fix the fact that the villains this season are mediocre at best, if that. You have villains like Vigilante, Ricardo Diaz and Black Siren where you have to wonder why they're working with Cayden James. In fact, why is Vigilante working with criminals now? Did something happen between season 5 and 6 that just changed his entire outlook on life? Does he maybe have a split personality? Because it honestly doesn't make sense for him to work with Cayden and his team. The issue here is they've got some pretty interesting members with Cayden but we don't really know much about these characters except for Anatoly and maybe Black Siren. They've yet to explain Ricardo's character, along with why Vigilante is working with them because of right now, it just doesn't make sense.

On a good note, I have always liked James Bamford, for those who don't know, Bamford is actually the stunt coordinator for Arrow and was the director of this episode. He works extremely hard on the fight scenes and always attempts to make them feel fresh even after 6 seasons. Bamford always manages to make the fight scenes seem personal so I will give credit on that end. Quite frankly I am glad that the directors and writers of this show give Bamford the respect he deserves because he really is dedicated to this show.

This episode delivers nicely on the fact that for the next few episodes, it will just be Original Team Arrow which is a huge relief for me and I think a lot of Arrow fans. The new team forming just doesn't interest me so to finally see OTA is always good. I think Arrow has reached a stage where they seriously need a solidified Team Arrow now and I honestly don't think Renee, Curtis and Dinah should be in it. If there was anything to take from this episode, it's that even though Oliver tried to reconcile with the new team, they didn't want to go back and that's fine but just don't go back at all now. I truly believe Arrow needs to either keep it as OTA or bring back Thea as Speedy and Roy as Arsenal. Should Black Siren have a complete redemption story arc this season then we can also potentially see her become the definitive Black Canary. From season 5 the new team never really sat with me so bringing back Roy and Thea could be really good for the show.

Overall, while the story of season 6 has been pretty weak, this episode had some enjoyable moments, whether that's Original Team Arrow or the well-choreographed fight scenes. Personally, I'd give this episode a 5.7/10 which like I said earlier isn't good or bad. However, if you're someone who's reading reviews in the hopes that someone will tell you whether you should continue to watch Arrow or not, I'd be lying if I said you should. The only reason I'm giving Arrow a chance this season is because I want to see if they'll fix the issue of the villain, the fractured Team Arrow and whether they'll bring Roy back permanently or not.
