ARROW Season 3, Episode 9 Synopsis; "The Climb" - 'The Arrow' Vs. 'Ra's al Ghul'

The CW have released the full description for the midseason finale of Arrow, and those of you complaining that this season has been a little slow will be glad to know that things between The Arrow and Ra's al Ghul will finally reach a breaking point! Hit the jump for details...

RA’S AL GHUL GIVES OLIVER AN ULTIMATUM; DINAH LANCE PAYS LAUREL A VISIT — Nyssa (guest star Katrina Law) returns to Starling City and tells Oliver (Stephen Amell) that her father, Ra’s al Ghul (guest star Matt Nable) has given Oliver 48 hours to find Sara’s killer or the League of Assassins will start killing the citizens of Starling City. Laurel (Katie Cassidy) is stunned when her father (Paul Blackthorne) delivers a very special Christmas gift – her mother, Dinah (guest star Alex Kingston). Meanwhile, Ray (Brandon Routh) tries to make amends with Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) and Oliver sets a meeting with Ra’s al Ghul. Thor Freudenthal directed the episode written by Jake Coburn & Keto Shimizu (#309).

Interesting...after a fairly slow build up, it does sound like the mystery surrounding Sara's killer will finally be revealed, while Oliver and Ra's coming face to face should help to make the second half of the season all the more exciting! What do you guys think?

Why wouldn't the League of Shadows just track down Sarah's killer?? The League have more numbers than team Arrow and likely similar resources, why kill random citizens and not just find the killer themselves? Tell Oliver who it was on the way out of town.

It's setting up Thea killed Sarah, so it puts Oliver and Thea/Merlyn vs Ra's and the League. And/or Thea will kill Nyssa helping/protecting Malcolm Merlyn.

@DCMultiverse I'm curious of the folks complain about the pace of episodes being slow, how many of them binge watched a season or more of the show.

Not just in regard to Arrow, but other action/drama shows like Walking Dead, SHIELD, etc. When I binge watch shows I tend not get hung up on "filler" or "build up" episodes as much when I can watch the next episode right away. Having to wait a week between episodes, I tend to analyze/critic episodes more.

Also I'm really sorry about it, but Alex Kingston as Dinah kills the character for me. I watched through the new Doctor Who seasons this year, and there are few characters on TV I hate more than [frick]ing River Song. >:(

Anyone think that the constant use of the last name Gardener during the dinner scene on the last episode might have been a hint that they were Ronald and Mary, Guy's parents....

I agree but it makes you ponder if you had that much power why waste it when other people who are not valuable assets and are expendable can do it with no costs at stake but it also raises why go through the trouble to kill those citizens as part of the point you were trying to make.

I genuinely hope that cocky DJ kid from last episode isn't around much from now on. What an all around annoying character! And if he stays for a while I hope he'll get into serious trouble with either Merlyn, Oliver or Roy.

Man, I think Ra's is cool and all, but how many Batman villains are they going to use for The Arrow? I mean, there's Firefly, Grundy, Dollmaker, Deadshot, Bronze Tiger, and now Ra's al Ghul? And on top of that, the guy only comes out at night, despite now being a hero to the city? Are they trying to make him into Batman...via both his methods and villains?

@alamborn19 it'll be interesting to see how it all unfolds, that's for sure. If nothing else the theories about who killed Sara and the blowback from it have me thinking/intrigued.

I wish Ra's and/or Merlyn were more involved in subplots this season, like Slade/Deathstroke last season. Of course it helped Slade was in flashback and the current timeline.

This just makes me believe even more that Ra's al Ghul killed Sara.

Think about it, he killed Sara but is the one giving Oliver an ultimatum to find her killer. Ra's al Ghul would be the person Oliver least suspects.

If Oliver fails to find her killer, Ra's al Ghul will have the League of Assassins attack Starling City, which I'm sure was his plan from the beginning.

great episode n season but god i hate it when it goes all "CW" on everything... when Mcculky starts playing music and bunch of dudes immediately start TV dancing almost made me vomit... plus that amy gumenick or whatever is a certified smokkkkeeee

Personally, I'm just glad Palmer's "transformation" into The Atom isn't induced by the particle accelerator in Central City. That damn thing is proving to be the Smallville "meteor storm" from the first season of that show.

And also, I'm fine with the use of so many Batman rogues on Arrow. It's not like we're ever going to get a Batman show regardless of how [frick]ing awesome it could be. Even though they've been making some good moves on TV lately, WB are still a bunch of chicken shit pussies.
