We are nearing the end of the 2017-2018 TV season, and that means that some of our favorite comic book shows will be closing the door on their current chapter. The CW, and the Arrowverse in general, has cemented itself as the main home for DC Comics characters on the small screen. Regardless of how one feels about these shows, it is certainly remarkable that the CW has managed to create the big screen equivalent of an interconnected universe of superhero series on television.
Arrow is currently in its 6th season,
The Flash its 4th, and both
Legends of Tomorrow and
Supergirl in their 3rd seasons. This year also saw the debut of
Black Lightning. While it has yet to be confirmed whether the story of Jefferson Pierce and company exists within the Arrowverse, signs are certainly indicating that this may be the case.
A new analysis from
Deadline on the renewal prospects of network shows indicates that the CW will likely renew
Arrow,
The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, and
Supergirl for the upcoming Fall 2018 schedule. The Arrowverse shows bring in great ratings for the CW, and therefore the CW is unlikely to change what is working well for them. The report also indicates that
Black Lightning, a show that has generally been met with praise from critics and fans alike, is a "
sure bet for renewal."
Perhaps the most exciting and important take-away from this Deadline report is that
Legends of Tomorrow will likely receive a 4th season, and this means that Matt Ryan will be joining the crew of the Waverider as a series regular portraying his fan-favorite take on John Constantine. With Constantine joining the Legends full-time, it is likely that the show will take an even more supernatural turn, perhaps tying into some of Matt Ryan's earliest adventures as the demonologist and petty dabler of the dark arts.
