Thanks to Entertainment Weekly, we have a first look at the new romantic interest for Kate Kate in season one of Batwoman.

Played by The Passage star Brianne Howey, Reagan will be introduced as a bartender at Tommy Elliot's party in this Sunday's episode and a romance between her and Gotham City's new Caped Crusader will kick off in the fourth instalment of The CW series.

"We can expect to see Kate’s story get complicated by her," Batwoman showrunner Caroline Dries reveals. "Kate realizes that Sophie’s got stuff to figure out emotionally and personally, and she’s not about to be a home-wrecker. So, she is just keeping her options open like anyone might [and] meets Reagan at this big penthouse housewarming party in Gotham."

"When we had a character who was so defined by her sexual orientation, just naturally by the press and what makes her unique, it was important for me that was a major part of the show and that we’re not shying away from it," she continues when asked about why it's a priority to show a relationship such as this for the show's lead character.

"On a macro level, we just want Kate to be in a romantic situation. Then on a story level, Kate has now by this time embraced her identity as Batwoman and has kind of committed to being the city’s new hero, and she wants it to be easier than it is and realizes very quickly, ‘Yeah, now I see why Bruce Wayne never had a long-term girlfriend and never got married.'"

Absolutely rubbish show so far! Worse than anything out there atm. Arguably as bad as that fake "inhumans" show, which was really the worst of the worst of recent years. And this is all from someone who was excited by the idea of the project and who's also a genuinely invested reader of KateK in the comics

Finally watched episode 2, it was an improvement over the pilot.

I like the dad dude, probably the better actor of the lot. Ruby Rose is pretty decent, but a little cardboard at times. The actress playing Alice is pretty bad. And again, the extras are probably the weakest link of the show.

The story is headed an interesting route. I wish they'd do something about the camerawork though. Also, dialogue needs improvement.

Other than that I found episode 2 quite entertaining. I'm in for episode 3.

I’m really...really trying with this show. But it reeks of all the “CW-ness” that turned me off of nearly all the CW shows. It feels so amateurish and bush-league. And not in the way Inhumans was. Somehow it’s bad in a whole different way.

@deepee3 - You're right. There would be moments that were so close to being effectively emotionally and then a bland pop song sung by stereotypical emo singers who sing sad covers of classic songs in movie trailers come in to make you feel sad because the audience is...stupid?

One of the only good things about this show is the expansion of the Arrowverse. We're only two episodes in and we've had references to Robin and WW.

@Nightwing1015 - it proves Batman along with Joker, Robin, Lucius Fox and Wonder Woman existed on Earth 1.

@2013venjix - Yeah exactly, a long overdue expansion. I didn't catch the Joker reference though, where was that?

That is one of the things that kills these CW shows for me...the love interest angle. I haven't watched Batwoman yet, but CW seems to always insist taking the romantic part of their DC shows to CW levels. One of my biggest gripes with Arrow has been the Felicity/Oliver love story dynamic, which I think was detrimental to the show. I have no problem with drama, but CW just can't get it right in my opinion.

I'm ignorant. In the comics does she have long flowing red hair? Or does she stuff a wig into her cowl every time she suits up? It seems impractical but is probably a way to differentiate herself from Bruce.

Stealthy bright red hair. Maybe Batman should try that. Might help him be stealthy. I realize that's just a thing about this character, it's not like they're getting it wrong in the show. I just always thought it was dumb. But, it's not something a man would do, so that makes it good...

This show feels like what a director / producer on a typical "CW" show thinks a Batman show should look like after watching the Nolan films.

That and Ruby Rose is the worst actor of the cast. The girl who plays her sister is leagues better. Hell even Kate Kane's child actress is better than Rose.

People should really base their opinions about this show by actually watching it instead of going by statements such as "by the looks of it" and "the Internet is saying X and Y" when the latter are the most unreliable ones. If I had to take a guess about those is they mean they've watched fan reviews from the typical close-minded and bigoted type of fans.

The show actually isn't struggling in finding it's tone nor it's footing, the 2nd episode established it already and things are moving smoothly. The Kane family's arc of how they will deal with the daughter they thought was lost but is back with a vengeance is the heart of S1 at least.

As for the new love interest, I knew it was coming since the showrunner talked about it a long time ago. Unless Crisis merges Earth-1 and Earth-38 then the chances are open for Kate to meet Maggie Sawyer and the writers could pursue that canon bond, but until then Kate can date just like how Bruce did.

Comic book movie news in general is looking pretty bleak lately imo.
