Speculation arose that Black Mask might show up during the second season of Batwoman when the False Face Society was mentioned in the official synopsis, and showrunner Caroline Dries has now confirmed that the ruthless villain will be introduced as a second antagonist for Gotham's new Scarlet Knight.
Though we don't know who's been cast as the character, Roman Sionis is expected to play a prominent role during season 2 as his criminal organization "tightens its grip on Gotham distributing a perilous new drug known as Snakebite."
"We have a couple big bads this season," Dries tells EW. "One, [who] we teed up midway through last season, is this woman Safiyah, and she's sort of Alice's Achilles' Heel. And ultimately yes with the False Face Society, we will see the leader of this gang as Black Mask later on in the season."
This will mark Black Mask's live-action debut on the small screen, but we recently saw Ewan McGregor's take on the DC Comics character in Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn). Cathy Yan's film also featured Victor Zsasz (Chris Messina), who will also appear in Batwoman season 2 played by Alex Morf.
