Ruby Rose Comments On BATWOMAN Casting; Says She Is "Beyond Thrilled And Honored" To Play Kate Kane

Following today's announcement that Ruby Rose would play Kate Kane, a.k.a. Batwoman, in The CW's Arrowverse, the Aussie actress has shared an Instagram post expressing her excitement over the news.

Batwoman will be the first out lesbian superhero character to headline her own TV series, and Rose - who identifies as gender fluid - is very grateful for the opportunity to bring life to Kate on the small screen.

“I am beyond thrilled and honored. I’m also an emotional wreck, because this is a childhood dream," said Rose in her post. "This is something I would have died to have seen on TV when I was a young member of the LGBT community who never felt represented on tv and felt alone and different.”

Rose will make her debut as Kane in the CW's annual crossover event before going on to reprise the role in a Batwoman solo series, which is expected to air sometime next year.

@dracula - I'm hoping the Legends still appear, even though there won't be a Legends of Tomorrow crossover episode...

I've read some of the Batwoman comics written by J.H. Williams III, and this is the perfect property to adapt. I just hope that Batwoman is a CHARACTER first, and that her LGBT status is just a trait of that. We've already seen characters like Maggie Sawyer and Rene Montoya introduced in Supergirl and Gotham as cardboard cutouts meant only to be lesbian love interests (despite being more fleshed out in the comics).

I would like to see The Question and Ted Kord introduced on the CW next.

Not trying to be a dick here, but isn't CW a little beneath her.

@CurlyBill - hahaha, so funny

@CurlyBill - have you seen her act? Shes.... not great. But the CW has managed to pull some reliably great TV actors like Tom Cavanaugh, Jesse L Martin, Victor Garber, John Borrowman, Arthur Darvill, Nick Zano, Neal McDonough, Wentworth Miller, Dominic Purcell and Matt Ryan. All of those actors could perform circles around her.

@ArthurFleck - I'm not talking about her acting range because yes she's not that great. I'm just saying that she seems to be a hot commodity right now so I would think she would want to do more blockbusters or even a superhero movie them a tv show.

@CurlyBill - I'm pretty sure if she was fielding better offers, she wouldn't be doing this show. Its pretty wildly known shes not a great actress. Idk how hot a commodity she is right now. If anything I'd say her star was in decline. She had a bump of popularity in 2017, she went viral and got the few gigs she got, but I wouldn't consider her a hot commodity by any stretch.

This seems fine. She seems cool. I haven't really seen her act-act (only seen her in John Wick 2 and she basically did FA in that).

I still think Evan Rachel Wood as Kate Kane would've been perfect - maybe for the DCEU version if that ever happens.

Not a big deal but; I take it we're not going to get the hair?

Still not grasping "gender fluid". So she can wake up and say "today, I'm gonna be 3/4 boy and a 1/4 girl" ? That can't be it.
