Following some recent character breakdowns for The CW's Black Lightning, we now know which actor has been selected to step into the lead role of Jefferson Pierce. THR reports that 20+-year TV veteran Cress Williams has been cast as the retired superhero who must once again suit-up as his old alter-ego when one of his daughters falls in with a criminal gang.

Williams has appeared in numerous shows over the years, including Prison Break, Beverly Hills: 90210, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, and The CW's Hart of Dixie. He also has some prior DC adaptation experience, having played Baron Sunday in Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman back in the day.

Black Lightning will be written and produced by Salim Akil and Mara Brock Akil, alongside Greg Berlanti. There's no set premiere date just yet.
