We had a feeling this was on the cards, and the trades are now reporting that Titans and Doom Patrol - which were both originally developed for the now defunct DC Universe streaming service - are coming to an end.
Both shows will finish up after their respective fourth seasons, which are currently streaming.
Though producers were said to have seen "the writing on the wall" and set out to ensure that these final seasons will give fans a satisfactory conclusion, the decision to cancel both series was reportedly made before James Gunn and Peter Safran came on board as DC Studios co-heads.
“While these will be the final seasons of Titans and Doom Patrol, we are very proud of these series and excited for fans to see their climactic endings,” an HBO Max spokesperson said in a statement. “We are grateful to Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television for making such thrilling, action-packed, heartfelt series. We thank Titans showrunner Greg Walker, executive producers Greg Berlanti, Akiva Goldsman, Sarah Schechter, Geoff Johns, Richard Hatem, and the team at Weed Road Pictures."
"For Doom Patrol, we celebrate showrunner Jeremy Carver and executive producers Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Geoff Johns, Chris Dingess and Tamara Becher-Wilkinson. For four seasons, fans have fallen in love with the Titans and Doom Patrol, investing in their trials and tribulations, and in their legendary battles saving the world time and time again.”
Both shows have their share of loyal fans, of course, but we have a feeling there will be more disappointment about Doom Patrol! Many seem to feel that Titans has taken a significant dip, while the misfit heroes who make up the DP team have maintained a high level of quality.
