Lanterns Finale Spoilers: Revealing Behind-The-Scenes Photos Highlight Episode's Biggest Moments

The season finale of Lanterns is now streaming, and the show's 2nd AC, Traci Chartier, has taken to Instagram to share some revealing new behind-the-scenes photos highlighting most of the episode's biggest moments.

The shots include BTS looks at John Stewart preparing to dunk Sinestro in the water on Antaan's nameless home planet, Hal Jordan lying near the machine that Noah Macon used to heal him after his house was firebombed (yes, he also rescued Earl), John taking his first flight, and Sheriff Kerry aiming her gun at Hal's head.

Stewart isn't technically a Green Lantern, since he established himself as an "independent contractor," and we're still not sure what to call him. Interestingly, some concept art reveals that the power battery Sinestro forged for Noah is known as the "Dark Lantern."

"Dirt and Stars" ended with a funny, emotional exchange between Stewart and Hal(Ogram), with the latter tricking his trainee (that is, his deceased older self's trainee) into saying, "I love you." With a wink, Hal returns the sentiment.

“The characters, they fell in love through this action and this friendship,” Kyle Chandler said of the scene (via Indiewire). “Although it was pretty rocky, I got to say. But for that moment to occur at the end, it was just such a human factor. Maybe in a film from the ’50s or the ’60s, you’ve got The Duke standing there, and he’s just not going to say, ‘Well, I love you, kid’ — it just didn’t happen that way back then. But these were words that were actually expressed, and it was really nice to be able to do that. It was painfully exposed.”

“It was a joyous thing to be able to do on screen,” Chandler added, joking, “And it was easy to do with Aaron because, although I really don’t like him very much, I knew I was getting paid. So, you know, the checks passed.”

“They actually paid me what I got for the whole season just to be here with you, Kyle,” Aaron Pierre responded. “It’s funny because Kyle and I, so much of our dynamic in the series is tumultuous and it’s volatile. […] But when there were moments in the script that made us stop that and really lock into the emotional beat, that was really quite moving for us, I think, as the characters but also as the individuals playing the characters.”

“Kyle believes he made me cry on that day,” Pierre said. “I think I made him cry, but we’ll have to let the episode bear and see what the verdict is, you know?”

What did you make of "Dirt and Stars"? Let us know in the comments, and check out the new BTS photos below.

HBO in association with Warner Bros. Television and DC Studios. The pilot episode is co-written by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King, who are co-creators for the series. Mundy serves as showrunner. The first two episodes are directed by James Hawes, with Stephen Williams, Geeta Vasant Patel, and Alik Sakharov also tapped to direct. The series is executive produced by Mundy, Lindelof, James Gunn, Peter Safran, King, Ron Schmidt, and Hawes. Based on the DC comic characters from Green Lantern.

The series stars Kyle Chandler, Aaron Pierre, Kelly Macdonald, Garret Dillahunt, Poorna Jagannathan, Laura Linney, Jason Ritter, Ulrich Thomsen, Nathan Fillion, J. Alphonse Nicholson, and Jasmine Cephas Jones.

The series follows new recruit John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) and Lantern legend Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler), two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.

The word willpower was not mentioned in this series once

@JFerguson - That's because the focus was on racism.

@LilJimmy - the focus was actually on fear which is worse because that’s the complete opposite of willpower

@LilJimmy - No it wasn't and I think you know that. As soon as racism comes up there's a "section" of people who seem to have this stupid issue with it. Was it relevant? yes, being black in the 80s and 90s came with difficulties.

It's not a woke agenda it's accuracy

@CanonVsReason - Was racism a major problem back in the days of our grandparents, great grandparents, etc? Of course. There is no debate.

Being black in the 80's and 90's was not difficult. These Hollywood writer are one-trick ponies.

Gotta admit, I hated the Hal and John dynamic at first, but it grew on me. The Halogram idea was interesting.

Seeing if the fandom subs on Reddit complaining that their fanfic ideals weren’t adhered to is giving me some good laughs today 😂…

If Halogram sticks around, I can forgive them killing Jordan off... especially if they do the Parallax storyline eventually. This show would be nothing without Pierre and Chandler's dynamic.

The new oath is silly. To be fair, the normal oath is corny, but it's heavy at the same time. It's a warning. This new oath feels nearly self-serving at best. Especially when we waited over 7 hours of watching a show to hear THE oath...then we get...this shit. It didn't ruin the show for me, but what an incredible let down.

That poster is [frick]ing beautiful!!.

Sure the finale wasn’t the bombastic spectacle some may have wanted but it’s one that is more befitting of the type of the show this is which is more tragic , somber , real , complex & human then one might have expected it to be.

It’s about a lot of things and doesn’t hit the mark with all of them but to me , it’s nature vs nurture (which seems to be a consistent theme so far with the DCU) & what it means to be fearless which are 2 ideas that stuck with me and hit me…

Granted , i have my issues with the show like there’s alot of tell and don’t show but it still works because the writing and especially the actors sell it imo with Kerry McDonald , Aaron Pierre and Kyle Chandler truly leading the pack in fine form.

Anyway ,I liked Lanterns quite a bit and it is my favorite DCU project so far (second being Superman) thus I can’t wait to see where this version of John goes next!!.

Excited to see them coarse correct to somewhere between Reynolds and Chandler in the reboot! I feel like right in between them would be the perfect Green Lantern.

It would be hilarious if they started calling John Stewart "Dark Lantern"

Hal(ogram)'s last words to John were "I love you too, Junior"

Was that supposed to be some kind of clue?
Did I miss something? I thought it was only the LIVE Hal that called him that just to piss him off. Maybe I'm reading into it too much.

@RaisedFisT - Yeah I noticed that. I'm not sure if Halogram was just supposed to be getting more familiar with John and sort of catching up with his future self, or if it was supposed to signify something else.

Telling a story about artificial intelligence that wants to wipe out all sentient life in the universe in 2026... and letting the evil computer that's murdered trillions go free at the end because it says it has a desire to potentially resist the genocidal programming that is constantly screaming in its mind... is one of the strangest choices I've seen a writer make in a very long time.

@SeeYouIn2036 - right? And then keep Sinestro locked up to starve alone on a desolate planet.

John's empathy trait is a bit 🤏🏾 inconsistent

@Vigor - He forgives his abusive mom. He gifts the extortionist the 300k plus the 200k watch. He lets the psycho lady cop off for murder.

But tortures Sinestro who has literally never done anything wrong by him???

I think he may just be a simp. Or racist against aliens. Or both.

I feel like the Lantern was supposed to be yellow and they pussied out and made it green for fear of backlash.

Everything in the script and story leads towards it being a yellow lantern. James Gunn even posted the Earth One Image of John Stewart as a yellow lantern when he announced the show. It was forged on Qward by Sinestro using the yellow fear energy.

It should have glowed with a yellow energy.

@ObserverIO - 100%.

The battery is powered by fear water. His oath talks about embracing fear.

There's a god-awful yellow shoulder pad suit locked in the Warner Brothers vault right now lol

The show was an abomination. Hal and John are great heroes. This show was NOTHING like the comics. They turned both heroes into pieces of sh!t just to bow to the pathetic Hollywood radical agenda.

Lindelof is Satan.
