From the pages of The Sandman to his own incredibly popular comic series, DC Vertigo's incarnation of the Morningstar will now make his way to the small screen. Lucifer has been officially greenlit by Fox, and below we have our first look at Tom Ellis as a dark-haired former Lord of Hell.

Fox

The series stars Tom Ellis (Rush) in the title role as Lucifer, who, bored and unhappy as the Lord of Hell, resigns his throne and abandons his kingdom for the gorgeous, shimmering insanity of Los Angeles, where he gets his kicks helping the LAPD punish criminals. Co-starring alongside Ellis are Lauren German (Chicago Fire) as Chloe Dancer, an LAPD homicide detective who finds herself both repulsed and fascinated by Lucifer; Lesley-Ann Brandt (Spartacus) as Lucifer’s best friend Maze, a fierce demon who takes the form of a human woman; Nicholas Gonzalez (Sleepy Hollow) as Dan, an LAPD homicide detective wary of Lucifer; D.B. Woodside as Amenadiel, an angel sent to L.A. to persuade Lucifer to return to hell; and Rachael Harris as Linda, Lucifer’s therapist.

it would be great if Fox picked up Constantine and would show them back-to-back.

Was it with all these cop comic book shows? Is there a comic book show on tv that doesn't deal with cops or spies?

A show about The Devil quitting Hell and joining the Police force to punish criminals? Sounds awesome but doesn't Fox already have that show? It's called The News....

They shouldn't have changed the original plot, which was more faithful to the comics. Now, lile almost everything on tv, it's a pice procedural. And this guy playing Lucifer has been on already 2 cancelled shows he headlined

Lucifer Morningstar was a very interesting in the Sandman mythos. In wish they would had kept the original plot as in the comics however.

Not interested in any show misrepresenting what the devil is really like. He hates human beings and is not the Lord of Hell, although he wants people to be sent there. Hell is a place totally alienated from God. The devil would like that for people.

Dude, he's a fictional character from DC comics based on a fictional character from another, slightly older book. Seriously.

@rkshuttleworth - Devil ain't real. He can be represented however one imagines. That's a shitty reason to not be interested in a show.

Love the religious comments about this show. Some people need to learn how to separate the stuff from the "stuff".

Dude,the devil is real and that is why shows like this suck. And the trouble is that people can not separate the stuff from the "stuff" and that is why they let the media influence the way they think about life.

@Space

I'm so desperately hoping that will get another season. Caught it on Hulu a few months ago, easily one of the most enjoyable anime I've seen in years.

@rkshuttleworth

We will have to "agree to disagree" about that, as I do not think that the devil is real. If someone disagrees with your religious beliefs, it's hardly because they let the media influence them. They may just not share that belief (I don't). If shows like this "suck" because of your beliefs, then it is YOU who is being influenced. This show is making NO statement towards the validity or lack thereof in religion. It's a show about a fictional character. Period. To me, not being able to handle the existence of this show, speaks more to the fragility of faith, than anything else.

Guys, I'm afraid rkshuttleworth is right. The devil is real.

He teaches Theology at our community college. He ran for city treasurer a few years back and lost. I always say hi when running into him at the grocery store. He's a pretty chill dude. Volunteers for events that bring awareness to Alzheimer disease.

The synopsis sounds kind of lame and reminds me of the "God Cop" pilot from 30 Rock.

I see that some people are already starting to get riled based on this info alone. God help them when the first trailer for Preacher comes out.
