It's been a long time since the first half of Lucifer season five dropped in August, and Netflix has finally announced that the fan-favorite series will return for the backhalf of its fifth season on May 28, just ahead of the Memorial Day holiday weekend.
Season 5B will consist of eight episodes, and will pick up almost immediately after the events of the Season 5A finale, which saw God (Dennis Haysbert) himself arrive on Earth and reunite with his sons Lucifer (Tom Ellis), Amenadiel (D.B. Woodside), and Michael (Tom Ellis).
The ten-episode sixth and final season began filming immediately after Season 5B wrapped production following its lengthy pandemic-induced hiatus and, solely based on photos shared on social media, only very recently wrapped the series finale. With a premiere date now set for Season 5B, it seems increasingly likely Season 6 will either drop near the end of the year, or possibly in early 2022.
Along with series lead Tom Ellis (Lucifer Morningstar), the principal cast also features Lauren German (Det. Chloe Decker), Kevin Alejandro (Det. Dan Espinoza), D.B. Woodside (Amenadiel), Lesley-Ann Brandt (Mazikeen), Scarlett Estevez (Trixie Espinoza), Rachael Harris (Dr. Linda Martin), and Aimee Garcia (Ella Lopez), all of whom will also be back for Season 6.
Dennis Haysbert (God) and Alexander Koch (Pete Daily) will recur throughout the back-half of Season 5, while Inbar Levi (Eve) is slated to make a guest appearance in at least one episode. Series newcomers include, but are not limited to, Rob Benedict (Supernatural), Scott Porter (Friday Night Lights), Merrin Dungey (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) and Brianna Hildebrand (Deadpool).
