If you thought Lucifer was just bringing Superman onto the show to play some regular ordinary cop, then well, you guesed wrong as tonight's fall finale revealed that he isn't just some regular ordinary cop, he's actually Cain as in the Cain who commited the world's first murder and was cursed by God to walk the Earth for eternity.

When the show returns in three weeks, we're going to see good ol' Lucifer use this newfound knowledge to his advantage and strike a deal with Cain to help them both get what they truly want.

Watch the new promo for the midseason premiere below:

Monday, Jan.1 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX.

Entering its third season, the story of the original fallen angel continues. As Season Two came to a close, Lucifer took care of a little problem called Mom, aka Charlotte (Tricia Helfer). But now he’s facing an even greater challenge – finding out who kidnapped him, and why his angel wings are back. In addition, Tom Welling (Smallville) joins the cast as Marcus Pierce, an accomplished police lieutenant who is everything Lucifer (Tom Ellis) is not – strategic, reserved and well-respected. But perhaps even more annoying are all the things they have in common. Both men are charming, charismatic and handsome as hell. So when Pierce starts developing a connection with Decker (Lauren German), Lucifer's devilish traits are inflamed.

Lucifer features:
Tom Ellis as Lucifer Morningstar
Lauren German as Chloe Decker
Kevin Alejandro as Dan Espinoza
D.B. Woodside as Amenadiel
Lesley-Ann Brandt as Mazikeen
Tricia Helfer as Charlotte Richards
Aimee Garcia as Ella Lopez
Scarlett Estevez as Trixie Espinoza
Rachael Harris as Linda Martin
Tom Welling as Marcus Pierce

Lucifer returns with an all-new episode December 11

I usually love the character of Lucifer in movies and tv, particularly Mark Pellegrino on Supernatural (prior to the last 8 seasons). But the main actor on this show just kinda annoys me. He doesn’t seem the devil as much as he does... just a really flamboyant gay guy? Am I the only one who can’t take him seriously as a womanizer and such because he seems very very gay?
