PEACEMAKER: Check Out A First Look At Next Thursday's Episode, "Monkey Dory"

HBO Max has released a promo for next week's episode of Peacemaker, "Monkey Dory," as the team faces the threat of the butterflies while Christopher Smith continues to clash with the group.

Following yesterday's action-packed episode of Peacemaker, HBO Max has released a promo teasing what's to come in next week's fifth instalment, "Monkey Dory." We see more verbal clashes between the former Task Force X member and his team, while those mysterious Butterflies are shown closing in on Vigilante and Harcourt in a factory that appears to be producing the goop they eat.

Not too much is revealed beyond that, but it looks like another fun episode of The Suicide Squad spinoff.

Critics have responded extremely well to the HBO Max series as it currently holds an impressive 94% score on Rotten Tomatoes, where the first season has already been "Certified Fresh."

"Peacemaker quickly establishes itself as essential viewing for fans of The Suicide Squad," we said in our recent review of the series"but it's a career-best performance from John Cena and the greatest opening credits of all time that will make sure you want to come back each week."

Director James Gunn recently revealed that he made the decision not to send the eighth and final episode of Peacemaker's first season out to critics due to fear of spoilers leaking. Clearly, something big is going to happen in the finale, and the filmmaker has already teased plans for more episodes so Christopher Smith will probably make it out alive (we're hoping that will be the case for Vigilante, too).

Check out this promo for next week's episode of Peacemaker below:

Im really liking this show a lot. Although not a big fan of the opening…it’s alright but amazing? It’s a stretch just my opinion. If others love it coool

Vigilante and Eagly my favorite characters thus far

@TheAcuario - you know the Vigilante actor is English? I had no idea till I saw an interview vid with him on Gunn’s feed yesterday. Great at the American accent

Gunn is killllling it with this show. They’re lucky to have him, could so easily be The Boys-lite but it’s entirely it’s own thing. A lot of heart and humour. For what it is, it’s better/as good as any MCU show from last year

Oh, and his scheme to make sure we never skip the titles works wonders. Gets funnier every time, and the song choice is obviously perfect

@Cap1 - I agree. It makes you wonder why TSS didn't do better at the B.O.. I'll bet if they had released it in say March of this year it would have done better.

@JDL - TSS’s failure at the BO is a real bummer, but it at least got some great numbers on HBO Max. Thankfully Warner Bros didn’t cut ties with Gunn and trust him enough to do a show, he’s one of the few directors where if you watch his stuff without previous knowledge of it being him, you’d realise it was his within 5 mins

@Cap1 - It's my belief that they inherited whatever ill will was left over from the first one which is unfair but understandable. They needed a partially different approach although I have no idea what would have worked.

@Cap1 - it’s better than the Disney Plus shows so far on characterization alone honestly. Will it end up better than Loki and Wanda? Time will tell

@JDL - HBO Max same day release is why. TSS is just as critically acclaimed across the board as Peacemaker

@Cap1 - they clearly love his film as he got this show AND another upcoming DC show
Cap1
Cap1 - 1/21/2022, 9:29 AM
@JDL - I think their approach was wildly different, but the name being the same with just ‘The’ added on didn’t help, although as you say i’ve no idea how they could’ve avoided that cos it is what it is

@Cap1 - I think if they had seen it (SS) as a problem they would have done something and they didn't.

@McMurdo - Huh ? Day & Date hurt the Box Office but the critics disliked it independently. And since they seem to like Peacemaker the love for this show and the movies seem quite different. YMMV.

@JDL - you’re out of touch. Critics adored The Suicide Squad. Like universal acclaim might wanna check the tomato-meter again on that one pal. So Peacemaker being critically acclaimed is hardly surprising given it’s the exact same writer/director as TSS

I thought he was mildly amusing in TSS, but I couldn't see myself watching an entire series with this character.

Off topic: R.I.P. to the Loaf. He seemed like a good guy.

@Feralwookiee - Peacemaker is MUCH better in his own show than he was in TSS.

@kylo0607 - I really never watch any tv shows, but I might check it out online down the road if I have time. I just figured they'd make him the butt of all jokes, which gets old quick imo.

This show is INSANE, however, you can notice last episode wasnt directed by James Gunn, the action sequences at that montage at the end...those werent that good.
Script still solid AF, though, and Cena is killing it.
kider2
kider2 - 1/21/2022, 7:50 AM
@TheHumanSpider2 - Most of it was still by James Gunn. He reshot all scenes with Vigilante for episodes 1-5. So even though he wasn't the director this episode all scenes with Vigilante were done by him.

@kider2 - good point I totally forgot about that. vigilante walking through the prison with a smirk was glorious

Ep 4 hit me in the feels hard. Easily one of Gunn’s best scripts so far, this episode especially as we are dealing with trauma, abuse, racism etc. this is some deep shit for a comic book show and it’s being treated with a lot of care. VIGILANTE WAS BRILLIANT IN THIS EPISODE [frick]
TheHumanSpider2
TheHumanSpider2 - 1/21/2022, 8:47 AM
@McMurdo - Yup, he felt like a sympathetic Rorcharch...you know he is not a "cool badass", he is someone who is a completely insecure person with a lot of mental issues.
ColdSlither
ColdSlither - 1/21/2022, 9:04 AM
@TheHumanSpider2 - Vigilante is like a left leaning Rorcharch.
TheHumanSpider2
TheHumanSpider2 - 1/21/2022, 9:23 AM
@ColdSlither - Vigilante feels like someone actually understood that Alan Moore was mocking libertarians with Rorcharch.
Unlike people behind the live adaptation of Rorcharch who is basically "a badass Batman, yeah, [frick] the liberals and the goverment"
McMurdo
McMurdo - 1/21/2022, 9:23 AM
@ColdSlither - 😆😆
