If you're a pro wrestling fan, then we're sure you'll know that this weekend's WrestleMania will be headlined by The Rock and Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins on Night 1 and Reigns vs. Rhodes II on Night 2.
The expectation is that some familiar faces from the past could get involved with one or both matches, and John Cena and Stone Cold Steve Austin's names have been mentioned on several occasions in recent weeks. However, The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker star won't be getting physical.
Why not? Well, we can once again blame those pesky Hollywood constraints!
It's already been confirmed that Peacemaker season 2 will shoot over the summer, and PWInsider (via TheRingReport.com) reveals that while Cena is expected in town for WrestleMania, it's still unclear whether he'll factor into the show.
However, what they can say is that Cena "will be off the board for anything major in the physical WWE realm for most of the remainder of 2024." That's because he's shooting Peacemaker between June and November, with cameras expected to stop rolling around Thanksgiving.
We're sure Cena can at least hit someone (Black Adam star The Rock is a prime candidate) with an Attitude Adjustment, but wouldn't bank on him doing much more than that. Like The Final Boss, he simply can't risk injuring himself while working on movies or TV shows because that risks delaying production by months, potentially costing a studio millions of dollars.
"For me, it was just about seeing who Peacemaker was," Gunn told us in 2022 when we asked about how he made one of The Suicide Squad's most despicable characters someone we could root for. "I knew that I loved the guy. I knew that I felt sorry for him and I knew that he was trapped in what would be called toxic masculinity."
"He’s trapped in this world set down by his father that has forced him into being a certain way, but in his heart, he’s an artist. He’s the guy we see at the end of episode six playing the piano. That’s who Peacemaker is, and yet, he’s become something completely different than that."
"He’s a guy whose soul was truly saved by rock ‘n’ roll," Gunn continued. "That was his ultimate form of rebellion, but also his way of maintaining himself and who he is to some slight degree. I think if I loved him, I always figured other people would probably fall in love with him too."
