STARGIRL Season 2 Will See Eclipso Pose A "Different, Darker Scarier Threat" To The New Justice Society

The season finale of Stargirl teased the arrival of Eclipso, and it seems the new Justice Society will have their hands full with the villain if comments from showrunner Geoff Johns are any indication!

Stargirl's first season saw Courtney Whitmore assemble a new Justice Society to battle the Injustice Society, and now that team has been defeated, the heroes will need a new big bad to square off with.

Yesterday, a Stargirl panel was held at virtual New York Comic-Con which saw showrunner Geoff Johns take a deep dive into the threat Eclipso will pose in season 2. His arrival was teased when Cindy Burman first came across a strange diamond which she described simply with the word "Eclipso."

Johns says the villain is "terrifying," and that he'll be "a very different antagonist or villain than the ISA."

"We’re just starting to cast him [Eclipso] so we’re looking for that and I’ve got these wonderful designs from LJ Shannon - what he’s gonna look like," Johns revealed. "But it’s a such a different, darker scarier threat because the threat is Cindy’s one thing and she’s got the black diamond and we’re gonna obviously explore that but the thing inside it."

"This entity that’s trapped, this ancient being that feeds off humanity’s own sins and grief and fear and darkness trapped in this black diamond and has been there for a long long time and is aching to do what he does and feed off the darkness within humanity," he continued.

"It’s gonna take a lot to confront it and it’s gonna take the JSA and every one of our wonderful characters to a place that’s gonna be tough for them to explore."

It's unlikely season 2 of Stargirl will premiere on The CW until next summer or fall thanks to COVID, but it sounds like the series will boast a great baddie in Eclipso when it does finally return to TV.

Be honest, can this kiddy JSA defeat the all-powerful entity Eclipso? I don't think so. They need some strong heroes, and Starman coming isn't very helpful.

I almost know nothing about Eclipso so this will be the first time I see the character. Curious what they have in mind for him, especially design wise.
