STARGIRL: The Endgame Has Arrived In The New Promo For The Series Finale, "The Reckoning"

Next week, Stargirl airs its final episode and it sounds like it's going to be a doozy of an hour as Courtney Whitmore and the Justice Society of America engage in the biggest battle of their lives!

While the promo for next week's installment of Stargirl surprisingly bills it as a season finale, it will actually be the show's series finale and it also looks like it's going to be the show's biggest episode ever as Courtney Whitmore (Brec Bassinger) and the Justice Society of America take on their biggest threat ever.

Episode thirteen will presumably pick up shortly after the shocking events of this past Wednesday's penultimate hour, where we not only learned that the Dragon King (Nelson Lee) is still very much alive - now inhabiting the gorilla body of the Ultra-Humanite - but also that Sylvester Pemberton (Joel McHale) is also an imposter and is the true Ultra-Humanite!

It's a bombshell revelation that sets the stage for a sure-to-be epic finale, with the highest of stakes, as Courtney and her friends square off with the resurrected Injustice Society of America, a battle that promises to change the world as they know it forever.

Check out the new promo for episode twelve, titled "Frenemies - Chapter Thirteen: The Reckoning," below:

Brec Bassinger headlines the series as Courtney Whitmore/Stargirl, with a supporting main cast featuring Yvette Monreal as Yolanda Montez/Wildcat, Anjelika Washington as Beth Chapel/Dr. Mid-Nite, Cameron Gellman as Rick Tyler/Hourman, Trae Romano as Mike Dugan, Hunter Sansone as Cameron Mahkent, Neil Hopkins as Larry Crock, Joy Osmanski as Paula Brooks, Amy Smart as Barbara Whitmore, Meg DeLacy as Cindy Burman/Shiv, Luke Wilson as Pat Dugan/S.T.R.I.P.E., and Joel McHale as Sylvester Pemberton/Starman.

Keith David voices this season's big bad Mister Bones, while Jonathan Cake (Richard Swift/The Shade), Ysa Penarejo (Jennie-Lynn Hayden), Stella Smith (Artemis Crock), Alkoya Brunson (Jakeem Williams), Tim Gabriel (Todd Rice/Obsidian), and Seth Green (Thunderbolt) are set to appear this season in recurring roles.

@dracula - They recasted Jonathan and even released photos of him being on the set. Season 3 is happening. After that though... I share your fears, man.

I wish this got another season. That twist was so messed up, but I figured it was coming

Thank God the end is near for all of these trashy DC TV shows is near.

I don’t know how, I don’t know why, but deep down…I had an inkling of a feeling this was the major twist they were building up to.

And what a twist—they took a page out of the 1993 Elseworlds miniseries “The Golden Age” by James Robinson and Paul Smith!

I mean think about it: both have main villains up to brain transplant-shenanigans, with one of them (Ultra-Humanite in both stories) inhabiting a patriotic-themed hero as a means of undermining the other heroes.

@FlixMentallo21 - I did read somewhere this week that other people realized that this week's tweet was echoing that Golden Age story which I've read before that Johns quotes that tale as why he became such a big fan of the JSA and of the DC Golden Age lore.

Yeah must admit that I'm a little sorry that the show is ending. Liked it a lot more than I thought I would when it was first announced. I too wonder why the "Staff" works so well with the imposter and seems to be ultimately loyal to the wrong person, but maybe, hopefully, most likely that will change in the finale. Crossed fingers this final episode will be a good one. It was a nice little ride while it lasted.

That twist was like a double dosis of the Reverse-Flash and Zoom identities reveals given that we found out both Ultra-Humanite and Sylvester weren't exactly who they claimed to be.

Ultra-"Starman" advicing Artemis to not become a killer and instead focus on staying on the good path is basically protecting Icicle.

I am also sure when he told Yoland and Beth that they should look for others to pass on their mantles once this was all over felt more like he wanted to softly make them give up as superheroes.

Still, I liked the name drops of Terry Sloane aka Golden Age Mr. Terrific, Al Pratt aka Golden Age The Atom and also his son, Grant Emerson aka Damage who is also supposed to be another new legacy JSA member. Plus Sandy Hawkins got his 2nd mention in the show. And mentioning Terry Sloane in the list of a JSA that didn't have a family member to pass his mantle was like a small tease of the show someday going to introduce Michael Holt.

Even mentioning Doctor Fate as another member that died without having the chance to pass on his mantle can be considered a tease maybe Khalid Nassour showing up later. I found it odd that "Sylvester" didn't mention that Hawkman and Hawkgirl could've had a son as well because in the comics that's Hector Hall, who first was a member of Infinity Inc known as Silver Scarab before becoming a new Doctor Fate. But Khalid would fit in better with the age group of Courtney's circle.

I was wrong about Cindy being controlled by Ultra-Humanite, she really came to her senses and decided to work together with Mike and Jakeem. Had she only done that before though.

The VFX on Ultra-Humanite's ape body was on point especially when Cindy roasted his new form. The way his eyes bulged a bit.

I liked Cameron Gellman's performance showing the awful side effects of what happens when he tried to take off the hourglass. Worse withdrawl effects I've seen, well, in a while in a superhero show. Major props for coming to Courtney to admit he needed help and honestly, the fact that now he's gonna have to head into the S3 final battle with the hourglass still without the limiter and it potentially affecting him further makes me believe it's another story thread crumb that would and must be picked up in Season 4 if the fan campaign efforts pay off. Rick properly fixing the hourglass by reinserting the limiter AND handling his addiction to it are important story arcs for him.

And if the hourglass is beyond fixing because he can't put back the limiter or something it'd be pretty interesting if Rick decided to create his own hourglass. Like how it was in The Flash S6 when Barry realized that he needed his own power source with the Speed Force dying.

Courtney's speech praising the unconditional love Pat's showed her since the start to "Sylvester" and saying she thanked God everday Pat was her father was beautiful. Only Brec Bassinger can deliver that.

So Jordan is supposed to "deliver" Ultra-Humanite to convince the JSA/Courtney he has reformed and to soothe Cameron's worries about his ex-girlfriend not believing they can start again. Icicle's lies are one way or other going to blow up in his face in the S3 finale and the worst outcome is that he WILL (hopefully) lose his son's trust in him. And it'll be worse if he finds out Mr. Deisinger died by his grandmother. A lot of things are going to change the Mahkent family this Wednesday, hoping Cameron to walk away from Jordan. Besides it's been foreshadowed that he's as strong as his father so an eventual fight is inevitable.

Plus I feel that if Dragon King in UH's body is really as indestructible as the hype is, then they'll probably have to freeze the whole albino ape. Cameron could do it or maybe Lily and Sofus put their differences aside and help him. But I'm also anticipating to see a Mahkent family feud: Lily vs Sofus and Cameron vs Mahkent which would let the JSA handle Dragon King and Ultra-Starman.

Ultra-Starman monologued too much and didn't realize he buried Pat alive. Sucks that in the end Sylvester really did die in the pilot and his final words were about what a great friend Pat always was. He'll be smiling down below in the finale when the JSA defeats UH and the others, there he'll get proper justice.

They're teasing Jordan's new endgame until next week just as the JSA figures out "Sly" was fishy in advicing Rick to do something reckless that led to the same issue his dad faced.

Great breakdown of the chess moves Ultra-Humanite pulled with each member to get what he wanted. Still not sure of a couple of things like why he encouraged Courtney about keep guiding Cameron and being with him. Maybe his objective was to make her help him to be in control of his powers and just that. Or other little mysteries like where Sofus and Lily were going in the ending of 3x03 or what was up with that puzzle Jordan was doing while spying. And if the cameras were always below and how Icicle got that healing suit.

It was always UH since the S1 finale cliffhanger. It just makes so much sense, how he was unhinged in his fight with the Crocks and why we've seen so little of Courtney as Stargirl: her coming up with an arrangement so UH could use and bond with the Staff was all about advancing his plan.

Can't wait for the S3 finale. And I hope Grundy could resurrect now and dug up Pat while Zeek fixes S.T.R.I.P.E. and gets to pilot it. They're fighting in his junkyard after all.

Cameron being involved in the fight vs the JSA is fishy. Something is also up there. He truly bought his dad's "peace" motto so the last thing he wants is for there to be more fighting. Something is definitely up.

And I predict Court will reclaim the Staff by doing a callback to this from 3x02.
