STARGIRL: Icicle's Back In The New Promo For Season 3, Episode 11; "The Haunting"

With only a few episodes remaining, it looks like things are really heating up - or should we say cooling - on Stargirl and next week's installment will one of the JSA's greatest villains return!

Icicle (Neil Jackson) is back in Blue Valley and this can't mean anything good for Courtney Whitmore (Brec Bassinger) and the new Justice Society of America, who previously thought they had vanquished the villain after Mike (Trae Romano) ran him over with his father's truck.

He also didn't waste any time getting back to his old ways, who after being revealed as this season's mysterious watcher, promptly disposed of the reformed Crocks and looks to reveal himself to Blue Valley next week. Based on the promo, it doesn't look like the JSA will buy into his ruse, but the rest of the town just might.

In a snippet from her upcoming appearance on the Wayne Ayers Podcast, Stargirl lead Brec Bassinger spoke on the series' recent cancelation. “I actually found out in May that Stargirl might not be picked up for a fourth season. I was actually flying to an event for Stargirl when I got the news. But that being said, it wasn’t for sure.

She continued, “The next few months… became this emotional roller coaster of, ‘Yeah, I think it’s going to get picked up’ or, ‘Oh, no, we’re pitching to a different streaming service… It just became this emotional roller coaster.

While fans will surely be disappointed to see Courtney's adventures end, executive producer Geoff Johns has already confirmed that the series will have a definitive ending, which should be somewhat reassuring.

Check out the new promo for episode eleven, titled "Frenemies - Chapter Eleven: The Haunting," below:

Brec Bassinger headlines the series as Courtney Whitmore/Stargirl, with a supporting main cast featuring Yvette Monreal as Yolanda Montez/Wildcat, Anjelika Washington as Beth Chapel/Dr. Mid-Nite, Cameron Gellman as Rick Tyler/Hourman, Trae Romano as Mike Dugan, Hunter Sansone as Cameron Mahkent, Neil Hopkins as Larry Crock, Joy Osmanski as Paula Brooks, Amy Smart as Barbara Whitmore, Meg DeLacy as Cindy Burman/Shiv, Luke Wilson as Pat Dugan/S.T.R.I.P.E., and Joel McHale as Sylvester Pemberton/Starman.

Keith David voices this season's big bad Mister Bones, while Jonathan Cake (Richard Swift/The Shade), Ysa Penarejo (Jennie-Lynn Hayden), Stella Smith (Artemis Crock), Alkoya Brunson (Jakeem Williams), Tim Gabriel (Todd Rice/Obsidian), and Seth Green (Thunderbolt) are set to appear this season in recurring roles.

"Frenemies - Chapter Eleven: The Haunting" - (8:00-9:00 p.m. ET) (TV-PG, V) (HDTV)

SEEKING FORGIVENESS - As Courtney (Brec Bassinger), Sylvester (Joel McHale) and the JSA plot to take down a major threat, the arrival of someone from their past sends shock waves through the town. Luke Wilson, Yvette Monreal, Anjelika Washington, Amy Smart, Trae Romano, Meg DeLacy, Hunter Sansone and Alkoya Brunson also star. Jennifer Phang directed the episode written by Steve Harper & Maytal Zchut (#311). Original airdate 11/16/2022.

Ugh, I knew the Crocks were about to croak when they got that call from Artemis and they didn't cut away to another scene.

Just finished watching the episode, good as well but quite a sad ending. The saddest one so far in the Season.

Like all shows Stargirl definitely has a pattern in the way they structure the stories. In the 6th episode there's a fight scene always (S3's didn't quite live up to previous others 6th eps but still, there was one) but they also like to strike hard at the heroes in their 10th episodes. They killed Henry after he sided with the JSA instead of with his father Brainwave and last year in Season 2 Eclipso sent a defenseless Courtney to the Shadowlands as Pat was unable to do anything to help her. (It stung twice because Shade set her up for his benefit)

And now they killed the Crocks. :( Just when they did the best moral thing to do, act as ambassadors of peace between the JSA and the Mahkents and seemed it was working. Jordan sure as hell doesn't buy in "learning" about mistakes since he just lured them in and killed them. Poor Artemis.

Next episode must explain in record time just how he's back. Seesm that he isn't fully recovered because his hand is half human but the rest of his fingers are still not there and looking shapeless.

Cameron's world is gonna keep spiraling. But this is one of the parts that excite me the most for the episode because he will get the chance to confirm all of the things that he was told by Courtney. In the comics Cameron hates Jordan and doesn't want anything to do with him so, this seems to be the set up for it. Finding out what Icicle did to Joey and his family, his intentions to brainwash the country, his creepy fixation on Barbara etc and there's no way with his moral compass that he's gonna be able to look past that. We are heading to surely an Icicle vs Icicle Jr. in the finale.

But I won't lie, it'll be interesting if Jordan convinces temporarily that he is good as he's gonna try to make the others believe and we see him standing next to his dad while staring down at Courtney as Stargirl next to Sylvester. In the end what matters is going to be how he ends up choosing love over anger and grief that shaped his dad.

Sylvester was right though about how the feed's signal was a set up at the Mahkents bc it doesn't seem they were aware and seeing how the Crocks were lured to a trap, it is looking confirmed. Jordan must've known that Crusher and Paula were getting somewhere in making amends + the JSA getting ready to fight Ultra-Humanite with the help of the ISA again. He needed to weaken their numbers.

I wonder if Cindy's gonna succeed in capturing Ultra-Humanite. Now I get why she said she was doing it to clear her name, prove to Yolanda she wasn't the killer even though by this point she and the rest must know after what Mike, Jakeem and Sylvester said of UH.

The exposition dump about Ultra-Humanite's origin was accurate, the only change was that he worked with Dragon King to transfer his brain to Dolores Winters and into this fave ape body.

I wonder where Rick stormed off after being rude like that to Beth, clearly she touched a nerve about his addiction on the hourglass. Maybe he went to Grundy's grave?

Was interesting to find out a bit more about the life the Mahkents had, with that trauma of being hunted like witches for their cryokinesis it's no wonder Jordan tried to do the whole brainwashing thing. They never want the same for Cameron to happen. Theoretically, one day that past catching up to him because of his powers in Blue Valley could make for a story theme in another Season.

I found it funny how Sylvester wanted to lowkey brofist Pat when Sofus mentioned that they killed Icicle.

I'm looking forward to Barbara succeeding in learning to use the crossbow for the finale against Jordan or Ultra-Humanite for Paula.

And that Camney break up was sad because there was no way Courtney was going to throw her own brother to the wolves. But Cameron will find out more and he will again cross paths with her. Again, "don't ignore love".

The following post I'm about to do here is about all the things that could carry on into future Seasons if the show can be revived.

Ever since the ending of Infinity Inc. Part 2 they began to set up things that clearly would be heading into the show's 4th Season in which they would have the proper time to develop them.

-You just don't mention a known legacy member of the JSA in the comics like Sandy Hawkins and just don't prepare to introduce him in any way. Clearly it wouldn't have been the classic presentation in the first S4 episode but we would have gotten to meet him at some point in the story and his arc with his super powers (the nightmares that tell him folks are in danger) could be used to set up the things Courtney and the others had to be on the look out.

-I don't think that this Season can end without Cameron finding out that his grandmother killed his friend and art teacher from school just for looking out for him. Unless Jordan's return is really going to be in these final 3 episodes the one and only thing in his mind. Either by finding Mr. Deisinger's body or through other means it must happen so he realizes it's not possible for his moral compass to side with his family. And I reiterate that the way his eyes turned again into those paint-like design just like in Season 2 when Eclipso got him should be explained. Why does he still has that and as part of what side effect? It should be over after Eclipso was defeated. What was the purpose to show it when he was struck with the icicle? All I can think of is that it was done like that to foreshadow a proper Paintball story arc and can make for a good character arc as well for Cameron to deal with him until he realizes that he might be over his head and requires the help of his not-so-"old" flame Courtney and the JSA.

-Is there even going to be time for Mike to find the closure with his mom that Pat wants him to have ever since he came back from the Shadowlands? Doesn't seem so, especially after he just found him and hugged him post the Ultra-Humanite encounter. Mike's very own abandonment issues could be developed to make him and Courtney grow closer. And to see him build his own S.T.R.I.P.E. as he told Pat in S2 would be another one.

-Rick's hourglass addiction is going to be solved within these last 3 episodes? Seems a little far fetched and it would end up paling a lot with how they did carry over with Yolanda's PTSD into Season 2 after she had to kill Brainwave. It must be explored and fleshed out in another arc.

-Cindy's transformation into a Dragon King-esque creature is also not done yet especially when she never found anything in all those labs she went looking around. Unless they really end up with pulling a Deux ex Machina with a wish for Thunderbolt that works or she is able to capture Ultra-Humanite and force him to undo this. Honestly it'd be better if she started to learn how to control it, find a balance for it and that can happen in Season 4. And I bet she would go to become actually fond of Mike and Jakeem in S4, they've found a good and funny dynamic in that trio.

-Beth finally gets the chance to fight like the rest and all that she's got to do is master the beta programms of the Mid-Nite Protocols. If that by itself isn't a task for a Beth arc like it was to trying to fix the goggles for S2 then I don't know what it can be.

-What is next for Artemis? How can this enthusiastic and competitive girl that just wanted to make her parents proud in the field move forward after this tragedy? The answer is simple by being accepted into the JSA, the team and family she's gonna need now. This can go in many ways and phases from how the JSA deals with easily a very angry Artemis that makes Rick's temper look tame and who could be a loose canon but also being there for her because she needs it. If they don't help her she could go to become just like Isaac did in S2: easily irritable. How does she deal having to see at school Cameron, the son of her parent's murderer? There's just tons of things that could be done and I'd love to see the JSA cheering for her at football games together. And I also think that she could end up being good friends with Beth, even sparring with all of the suit's combat modes and teaching stuff to Beth so she doesn't rely too much on them.

-The letter that the Gambler wrote to his daughter, Becky, which Courtney promised to find her to give it to her. Is there any time to do that before 3x13 ends?

And I could keep going a bit more with character arcs that show us how Yolanda and Cindy with Rick and Cameron end up transitioning logically from frenemy territory into genuine friendship terrain after Season 3's shaky grounds. Personally I'd like to see revealed to Yolanda that it was Cameron who painted that flower on her locker so that no one saw the s-slur someone wrote and also if the JSA is aware or not that Cindy leaked her pictures? Would that remain bury forever or it's just between Yolanda and Cindy? I am still curious about all's reactions to that.

What about Grundy's revival? Unless it is being saved conveniently for S3 finale. Will Yolanda stay forever at the Whitmore-Dugans? How does it affect her long-term to be at her best friend's roof? I bet she gradually goes back to being like before in 1x04's flashbacks.

Also who were those "whom" exactly that the Gambler heard about the threat of Eclipso in Season 2?

I think that's it. Because if not it's starting to look like half of all of these are those doors that will remain open for the future in case the fandom can successfully beg HBO Max/Netflix/James Gunn to help revive the show so it completes it's 6th Seasons plan and we can properly say goodbye to all of them the way that it should be, by seeing through Johns' vision for this show that means a lot to him.
