Guillermo del Toro To Helm A DC Movie Featuring SWAMP THING, DEADMAN, ZATANNA And More

It sounds as if it's a long way off, but Pacific Rim director Guillermo del Toro is apparently in negotiations with Warner Bros. to bring a supernatural version of The Avengers to the big screen featuring the likes of The Spectre, Phantom Strange, Sargon and more! Read on for details.

Our friends over at Latino-Review have just broken one hell of a story. According to the site, Guillermo del Toro (Hellboy, Pacific Rim) will soon begin work on a DC Comics adaptation for Warner Bros. called Heaven Sent, and it will bring together some of the most well-known supernatural characters from that comic book universe, including:

• Deadman
• The Spectre
• Swamp Thing
• Constantine Hellblazer
• Phantom Stranger
• Zatanna
• Zatara
• Sargon
• Etrigan the Demon

That's the list the site has and it seems to cover that area of the DC Universe very nicely (a shame that there's no mention of Animal Man though...). Warner's lawyers are currently hard at work on making sure they have the rights to bring each of these characters to the big screen, and while it's a project which is likely still a good few years away, but it's definitely not too early to start getting excited about this ambitious project!

Interesting concept, but I don't quite understand the weird mish mash of characters. I mean, I get the mystical, supernatural element, but it just doesn't sound like something that would work. I like Del Toro tho, so if anyone could make it happen in an awesome and exciting way, it's that guy!

So, they're just gonna do team up movies from now on? Jump straight into JL, this, and... hmm... Legion calling?

I don't understand this... why don't WB focus on the Justice League movie and/or movies of the JL members, like Flash, Wonder Woman or something like that?

I'd definitely like to see such a movie, but from a business point of view, it just makes no sense to me to pursue bringing these characters to the big screen, that probably not very many people who don't read comics ever heard of...

First the incredulous fanboy response: How bout you get your business together with Justice League before you start announcing all this other stuff.

Second the excited fanboy response: Caramba, this could be all shades of awesome. I'd also like to see Zauriel added to that mix. Someone else mentioned a Legion movie. I say yes to all of that. Talk about some serious universe building. Heroes, magic and time travel? I can get down with that.

@Halloweenjack and Dev7

Del Toro isn't even a comic book fan, he's stated over and again. His thiing is monsters and the mystical supernatural.

Too many people hating sideways cuz they can't talk shit about Del Toro without giving themselves away.

Effing fantastic idea. Let Neil Gaiman write the screenplay and get Stephen Bissette to do character design.

@ Paul Rom - exactly right. he went on record not too long ago that he wants these characters.

I wouldn't be surprised they deem this flick as JL Dark.
