SWAMP THING Reportedly Adds THE STRAIN Actor Kevin Durand As The Villainous Floronic Man

We wondered if one of Swamp Thing's more established foes would show up in the DC Universe series, and a new report indicates that Kevin Durand (The Strain, Lost) is in negotiations to play Jason Woodrue.

We found out earlier this week that Will Patton would be playing the main villain in DC Universe's live-action Swamp Thing series, but it looks like his character, Avery Sunderland, is going to have some formidable backup.

According to That Hashtag Show, Kevin Durand (Lost, The Strain, X-Men Origins: Wolverine) is in talks to play Jason Woodrue, aka The Floronic Man.

Originally introduced as a minor Flash villain, Woodrue returned in the pages of Swamp Thing when Sunderland arranged from his release from Prison, and he has since gone on to become one of The Earth Elemental's better-known enemies.

Swamp Thing is being developed as a one-hour show, and has Mark Verheiden (Battlestar Galactica) and Gary Dauberman (It) on board to write the pilot. They'll also executive produce alongside Michael Clear and James Wan. Len Wiseman will helm the first episode.

This is the show I’m looking forward to on DC Universe.

I’ll probably subscribe to DCU in the near future.

Good for Durand, he's great and killed it in The Strain.

Never followed through on that show. I watched the first ep and I liked it enough, just missed some episodes and never caught up.

What’d you think of it?

@regularmovieguy - I really liked it, it had some excellent characters, really neat lore, and quite threatening vampires. It also gave us one of the most badass characters on TV in recent years, Quinlan.

The first season was very good, second season was even better and the third season was great. The final season, it was the weakest one- it had some really good episodes, but the rest not so much and the finale felt pretty rushed.

There were definitely some characters throughout the series that you really can't stand (both in how they are written and portrayed, such as the son Zach), but overall it was a pretty good show. At a time when The Walking Dead became pretty stagnant (and I ended up quitting that series), The Strain was by far superior.

Interesting. I definitely want to give it another watch - I’ll check and see if I have it on Netflix or Prime.

I’ve almost finished Haunting of Hill House and I’m just quenching some tv horror right now.

Haven’t watched a full season of Walking Dead in a long time.

@regularmovieguy - probably best that you haven't.

You should watch The Terror if you haven't already.

This guy is somewhat underrated, good choice. Having said that I doubt I'll ever watch any of the DC streaming material. Should've gone to NEtflix and filled the Marvel void that's being created.

@FleischerSupes - Netflix is a middleman. They would have to stick to Netflix budgets and could only make shows Netflix orders. This service allows DC Entertainment to make any show they want, choose their own episode count and spend as much money as they see fit.

@FleischerSupes - I think Image and Millarworld are filling the Marvel void. Everybody is racing to their corners now for their own streaming content.
I can't wait for all the DC shows, including their animated efforts Harley Quinn and Young Justice.

Very good actor, man I'm really digging this cast. I think I'm going to pick up volume 1 of Swamp Thing before this comes out and read up.

I like Durand.
He was my pick for Marvels Hercules a long time ago, but probably never happen at this point.
Good to see him still getting roles and hopefully he kills it in Swamp Thing.

Knowing that Floronic man is going to be a part of this makes this show a must watch for me. Saga of the Swamp Thing is one of my favorite comic book series of all time. When Floronic Man reveals that Swamp Thing isn't Alec Holland at all but actually a copy Holland made from super powered planarian worms, it really struck a nerve with me. Especially since a big part of the narrative is Swamp Thing grappling with his humanity. It took the whole "finding out you aren't who you think you are" trope to a level that still hasn't been matched imo.

I suppose that he was offered the Swamp Thing role but didn't want to spend too much time in the make-up chair. the Floronic Man will be in a few episodes.

The cast is shaping out nicely and doesn’t look like the additions will stop.

After seeing Robotman and how they are planning to give S.T.R.I.P.E.S. in the upcoming Stargirl series the same treatment I think the same could be done for Swamp Thing and Floronic Man, mixed with a degree of special effects.

His surname Woodrue was mentioned as some kind of easter egg as the name of Sand Demon's hideout where he was keeping Patty hostage back in S2 of The Flash.

Shame the Strain show didnt closely adapt the books. Still finished strong after a disappointing second season.

Kinda wish GDT would get in on this show too.

Nice!! I hope he looks more like that classic version and not like the newer version that's basically a Swamp Thing clone.

I know very little about Swamp Thing, but, maybe...just maybe...is there a chance Poison Ivy could appear as a potential Season 2 villain?

Also, OFF TOPIC but...

Gotta say, this DC streaming service is cool. It has some kinks to iron out and I wish it was on consoles already but Titans turned out to be great so far.

He was pretty funny in his small role in Walking Tall. That's still one of the Rock's best acting performances (and it isn't a GREAT performance by any means).
