SWAMP THING Writer Gary Dauberman Says The Creature Will Have A Physical Suit; Teases A Hard R Rating

Titans is the only live-action DC Universe series to release official footage, and thanks to a few set photos, we got a great look at a few of the characters in Doom Patrol. However, with filming not set to begin until the fall, we've yet to see anything from Swamp Thing, official or otherwise.

Fortunately, in an interview with /Film, writer Gary Dauberman shared some new details on the James Wan-produced horror series, providing some insight into how the titular creature will look onscreen: "Swamp Thing himself looks incredible [...] So it’s going to look amazing and less of the “man in suit” that you’ve seen in the movie and the other TV show."

Still, while it may not look like the costume seen in the Swamp Thing series from 1990, Dauberman stressed that it "is a physical costume." Whether this means the practical suit won't be enhanced with CGI, however, remains to be seen.

Aside from discussing the character's design, the writer also made it very clear that Swamp Thing would be a hard R series.

"We always set out to make Swamp Thing as hard R as we could and go graphic with the violence, with the adult themes and make it as scary as possible. Because we’re doing it through the DC streaming service, they really pushed us, although they didn’t have to push hard, for us to go as extreme as we could. We really took our inspiration from the Alan Moore run in Swamp Thing, this landmark I think run. Fans of that series will know it gets pretty weird and extreme and scary."

In short, it definitely sounds like the series is aiming for a tone and style that's similar to the comics, which will undoubtedly make fans even more excited for the DC Universe project.

Now, what do you folks think? Are you excited for Swamp Thing? Make sure to share your thoughts in the comments below.

I was always more of an Alec Holland guy than a Parliament of trees guy... but I’ll watch! Hope the effects are cool. I’m holding out for a Phantom Stranger cameo...

Hard R? Pfffft!
Back in my day, we got a full frontal boobshot of Adrienne Barbeau...and that was rated PG! Them was the good old days. 😁

@Feralwookiee - most guys don't know what the hell you're taking about but I do. Damn, those were glorious. Always a bit weird, though, when you're sitting next to your mom at the movie theater and then Adrienne is unleashed.

@Feralwookiee - see also, Barbara Bach getting out of the tub in Force 10 from Navarone. And Jacqueline Bissett getting out of the ocean in The Deep.

@GeneralZod - I went without my mom, thank you very much. That being said, (obviously as an adult) I watched Sideways with her at home since her nephew/ my cousin was an extra. Even as an adult, that was awkward as hell. 😂🤣😂🤣😱

@Feralwookiee - Adrienne was sort of a guilty thing...she was hot and always made me think she was like one of my moms divorced friends. Older but laying it out there.
