GAME OF THRONES And CONSTANTINE Director Neil Marshall Wants To Helm BLACK WIDOW

Fans have been crying out for Neil Marshall to helm a comic book movie for some time now, especially as he's the man who HBO turns to when it comes to directing some of the biggest and best episodes of Game of Thrones. While he's now flirted with the world of comic book adaptations after working on the Constantine pilot for NBC, it turns out that there's another character he'd like to give their own solo outing. "I think I’d like to do a big movie with a strong female lead, whether or not she would be a superhero," Marshall told Vanity Fair in a recent interview. "I’m more interested in characters like Scarlett Johansson in Lucy. I’m less interested in people with superpowers because I can’t identify with them. Very rarely do they get killed off, and when they do get killed off, chances are they’re going to be back . . . somehow."

So, it sounds like we should definitely count him out when it comes to a big budget superhero movie like a future Thor sequel, but what about directing Scarlett Johansson in a Black Widow spin-off? "Yes, I’d love to do a big splashy movie with a great female lead, but it has to be someone I can believe in. I would love to do a Black Widow movie. That’s perfect, I would love to do that. That character is really interesting, she doesn’t have any superpowers, she just has extraordinary skills, and the world that she comes from, being this ex-K.G.B. assassin, I find that really fascinating, yeah." Of course, many fans would prefer to see movies featuring characters like Black Panther and Captain Marvel from Marvel Studios before a Black Widow solo outing, but it would still be hard not to be incredibly excited with Marshall at the helm.
