Game of Thrones Author Signs With HBO

Dissapointing news for fans eagerly anticipating the final two books in the Song of Fire and Ice series; but author George R.R. Martin has signed a new overall deal with HBO

While many of us are sitting on the edge of our seat waiting for the conclusion to the Song of Fire and Ice Series; it would seem like author George R.R. Martin has other ideas as he's signed a new deal with HBO.

Martin has signed a deal which will keep him on board as a Co-Executive Producer for Game of Thrones. Which doesn't mean much as this has been a position he's held for the duration of the show , but he generally contributes his writing efforts to one episode a season.

More interesting is the news that he'll be developing and producing a new series for HBO. This is by no means a confirmation of a full season order. However, considering the success HBO has had with Game of Thrones, a full season order is likely. It's worth noting that Martin has a considerable resume of TV writing credits under his belt writing for The late 80's Beauty and the Beast TV series as well as The Twilight Zone.

What type of series would you like to see from George R.R. Martin? Are you dissapointed that this could mean a delay for books six and seven of the Song of Fire and Ice Series? Are you envious of Martins beard? Sound off in the comments section below.

Ah, delays. OK. I thought there might have been some silly clause wherein Martin would not end the series so long as HBO continues producing the series adaptation. Though at this rate, it might amount to the same thing in terms of wait time. Of course, at the rate HBO will have to keep splitting the books up to cover the content, it'll be a good long while before they'd get to the end of the printed page (so Martin has plenty of time either way).

I think if Martin's beard was shorter George Lucas' neck would be jealous.....

I would love Wild Cards, but I imagine that would be too tough, rights-wise, since so many authors contributed.

I'm resigned to the fact that A Song of Ice and Fire will probably be completed by someone else after Martin passes away. Unless they make a hologram of him like Tupac.
