By now George R.R. Martin should be used to "catching flak" from fans wether it be for his love of killing off characters that fans love, and/or for taking his time when writing the remainder of the novels of A Song of Ice and Fire. Regardless he brushes it off and focuses on his work and how he goes about it.

This year at SDCC he delivered some news that will cheer up fans and at the same time might upset some.

The Bad News:
George R.R. Martin will not be writing an episode for HBO's hugely successful show, Game of Thrones, which by now everyone knows is an adaptation of his series of novels that make up A Song of Ice and Fire.

The Good News:
He is going to do all his obligated arrangements that he has so far and will not add anymore trips or projects so that he can dive in head on into finishing his latest novel, The Winds of Winter.

Here is what he said in an interview with Zap2It's Terri Schuartz, when asked about what episode he was going to write for season 5 of Game of Thrones.

"I'm not actually writing an episode for season 5, as you m

ay know, there's this book that people are kind of getting antsy about delivering, and it takes me roughly a month to do an episode so i decided given the realities i better skip this one, this season and just concentrate on finnishing the book."

The Winds of Winter is the forthcoming sixth novel in the A Song of Ice and Fire series by George R.R. Martin.
It follows very closely after the story told in A Dance With Dragons, and will explore more of the world of Westeros.

Edit: Here is the video of George R.R. Martin talking about being a fan of the Avengers and who his favorite Marvel Character is.
