AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.: First Look At Amy Acker As 'The Cellist'

We found out the other day that former Angel alum Amy Acker had joined the cast of the Marvel tv series as the famous 'cellist' who we first heard mention of in The Avengers. Well, it turns out her name is Audrey, and you can take a look at her after the jump.

Joss Whedon fans will no doubt recognize Amy Acker from the likes of Angel, Dollhouse and Much Ado About Nothing; and now she's signed on to appear in another project which involves the Avengers director: Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. We found out the other day that she'd been cast as Audrey -- the cellist first mentioned in The Avengers who was then revealed to have been Agent Coulson's one true love...before he died that is. But now he's back, and it seems we might be in for a reconciliation, as Audrey is set to appear in an upcoming ep. Here's our first look at the character, followed by quotes from Acker.

"I think one of the things that was so interesting about the role is that she has this backstory and she has been talked about in the TV show as well as the movie and you knew that she was someone important to him and, therefore, to everyone and, as an audience member, important to me. I was curious to see who they were going to cast as that person, never actually thinking it was going to be me. [laughs] But [I was] just excited to see how that storyline would play out. So when Clark called me personally and said how important this role was to him, that it [needed to be] cast with the right person, it was very flattering that he thought that I was that person."

First when Coulson goes to see Stark, then again after he "dies".

@MrMartinMarvel After Coulson dies in Avengers, Cap and Tony talk; Cap asks if Coulson had relatives and Tony mention "some cellist", than they start to talk about Loki's plan. It's only very brief mention.

She is also briefly mentioned as Coulson and Tony enter the Helicarrier's control room where the Avengers are meeting for the first time.

Marvel has almost unlimited resources in which they can bring up, modernize, and adapt countless minor characters (or even major, if they wanted to) from the comics...and they choose to latch on to two throwaway lines from The Avengers and write an entire episode of Agents of Shield about that. Maybe it's because I stopped watching this series a long time ago, but this concept is ridiculous to me.

This is the problem with so many fanboys, no actual interest in story, they just want to see superheroes! This character obviously has very personal ties to Coulson, and was mentioned in an earlier episode as being someone from his life before he "died" and was brought back that he was terrified of reconnecting with. There are many ways a meeting of the two could end up being very interesting for both the character, and the mythology as a whole if he ends up remembering things before the Loki incident.

But no, they could have Impossible Man in there instead right!

@SauronsBANE1 Yeah it seems like this show is used for tie ins and used to cover up some stuff from the Avengers. The reference to the cellist was just a throwaway line, and it should still be a throw in line. Why the [frick] would they make up a charcter now with a backstory. It's ridiculous

@Sauron
Dude, Coulson is the main character of the show and this Cellist is the only person close to him outside of SHIELD. So of course it's a relevant character.
Just because Coulson was created in the MCU doesn't make his story any less important than some random superhero from the comics.

This show would show the real slSHIELD better if it was on Netflix. Why'd they out it on abc??? Why?! On Netflix, it would show the shadowny covert espionage conglomerate hat is SHIELD. They just wanted to have a bunch of Avengers references, and the fat that Avengers is such a family popcorn movie, so they put it in abc. Owned by Disney. MARVKE is Disney's bitch sometimes

1st: I'm hardly a fanboy. Never once read the comics, never once expected Agents of SHIELD to be anything other than what it is: a SHIELD show focusing on normal people. I just expected it to actually be good. So no, I couldn't care less about the lack of superheroes on this show.

2nd: @Merc Not sure what difference it makes if the threat is from HER past rather than Coulson's or anyone else's? My issue is taking a throwaway line from The Avengers and latching onto it and making entire episodes revolving around it.

3rd: All of a sudden the cellist is the ONLY person close to him and the most relevant character to Coulson? Guaranteed, not a single person was thinking that when The Avengers came out and we heard the throwaway lines, or when this show was announced ("Oh goody, we get to delve into Coulson's personal life and find out about that mysterious cellist girlfriend!" Yeah...no). That's called backwards logic.

But hey, I was upfront from the beginning. I don't even watch this show anymore, so that's probably why I don't "get it." Just being honest.
