Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns for a shortened 13-episode Season 6 this summer, set in a post Avengers: Endgame world. While details are very scarce regarding the upcoming season, we previously learned the Agents will face a new group of mercenaries. At least part of the season is rumored to play out in the depths of space.

Thanks to a report from Revenge of the Fans, we finally have some casting news for Season 6. Anthony Michael Hall (The Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles, Weird Science, The Dead Zone) reportedly joins our Agents in an undisclosed role. While the specifics of Hall's character are under wraps, his role is described as a guest appearance. This is not Hall's first foray into the world of superheroes, as he previously portrayed a Gotham Cable News reporter in The Dark Knight.

The same report also mentions the return of two guest stars previously unannounced for the upcoming season. Joel Stoffer will return as Enoch, the fan favorite Chronicom from Season 5 who is presently watching over a cryofrozen Fitz in deep space. Briana Venskus will also reprise her role as Agent Piper, who has been with the show since Season 3 and was last seen with the team on Zephyr One.

Below is last month's first look at Season 6, featuring Mack as the new director of S.H.I.E.L.D. Be sure to share your thoughts about this casting news in the comments section below!

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. features:
Ming-Na Wen as Melinda May
Chloe Bennet as Daisy Johnson/Quake
Iain De Caestecker as Leo Fitz
Elizabeth Henstridge as Jemma Simmons
Henry Simmons as Alphonso "Mack" MacKenzie
Natalia Cordova-Buckley as Elena "Yo-Yo" Rodriguez
Jeff Ward as Deke Shaw

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns for Season 6 in July 2019, and has already been renewed for a  13-episode Season 7 set to air sometime in Summer 2020.

@HeavyMetal4Life - Thanks for the article, looking forward to an A.O.S trailer in the not to distant future.
So glad that Enoch is returning, he's an interesting character with still lots of unknowns related to him.
How will Daisy's centipede serum power-up affect her?
Are the agents going to go off to space immediately to search for Fitz?
Will Agent May be with them initially or is she hanging out with Coulson.
Will we get a pay off for the inhuman re-cocooned under the sea?

This extended long gap between seasons is killing me - "I need to know!!"

@hummingbird68 - no problem my man ;-) SHIELD is a perfect reason to come out of 'retirement' and put an article out!

So...
- Daisy's centipede serum enhancement will be focused on in season 6, the showrunners have said this much
- I'm not sure if they are going off to space immediately. I thought that they were on the Zephyr at the end of season 5 and preparing to head out to find Fitz. But the first look photo is of Mack at the Lighthouse (which I guess is the new AoS land base). But a good chunk of the season seems to be space-based. Chronicom hunters evidently show up, and I think they are going to be hunting Enoch.
- I'm guessing that when we see May next, she has already left Coulson and he has passed
- Vijay Nadir is the one big plot thread that they haven't addressed yet. I'm guessing they handle it in season 6 or 7

@HeavyMetal4Life @TheDoctor1225- I have all five seasons on Dvd so have been re-watching favourite episodes and youtubers reactions to get my fix :)

Out of interest how would you rate the seasons? I might be a bit of an oddball as I was hooked from season 1, episode 1 and rate the first season very highly as it did such good character building and did such a brilliant job of slow burning the Tahiti, centipede, 084 / Sky's story-lines.

As such my rating is as follows

1. Season 1
2. Season 4
3. Season 5
4. Season 3
5. Season 2

I know most people with not agree with me on season 1, but I have re-watched it so often it just is my favorite season.

Favorite episode is definately 4.15 - no real contest. But there are a lot of great episodes and moments like Hunter and Bobby's - Spy's Goodbye scene.

@hummingbird68 - my ranking:

1. Season 4
2. Season 5
3. Season 3
4. Season 2
5. Season 1

I found season 1 pretty dull and boring until the Kree body shows up, and then the rest of the season was great. Yes, in hindsight there was a lot of 'world' building and character development going on, and that was necessary for the rest of the season to be as good as it was. But I can certainly understand watching it so much for it to hold a special place for you!

Best SHIELD episode ever is definitely 4x15. And my pick for best pod was the future space pod (first 10 episodes of season 5), that really showed there was no bounds for what this show could achieve. There's a lot of fantastic episodes, and a lot of really great moments. The Devil Complex (which features the show's best acting courtesy of Iain), Past Life (which has one of the show's most beautiful moments, the epic music scene that begins with Flint in space), all fantastic moments from last season. Probably the saddest, most emotional moments for me: Hunter and Bobby's goodbye, Lincoln's sacrifice (his final words with Daisy, his speech with Hive), future Fitz dying, even Radcliffe's final drink on the beach. Best villain was Aida, best 'guest' character was Ghost Rider.

I could go on and on about the plethora of great episodes and moments from this show!

Sooo... are this and Far From Home set in a universe where Infinity War never happened?

@Luigi - yes. And in a universe where the earth wasn't cracked apart

He can be John walker (U.S.A.gent).

@Repian - If they have Walker on the show, I hope they show how brutal he can be. Dude was like the love-child of Captain America & The Punisher.

I wonder if the writers of season 6 are allowed to know how Endgame ends so that they can write it into AoS. Although I dont think thats the case and AoS will stay disconnected from the Marvel Studios projects
CaptCoulson
CaptCoulson - 1/16/2019, 4:01 PM
@MalseMarcel - yeah that's a curious statement in the article, "set in a post-Avengers End Game world". Which itself would sure seem to suggest that it would have to on some level acknowledging whatever the hell happens in End Game, and yet with how we know the security level was just on Infinity War, it's gotta be 100 damn times that for the true conclusion. And so a significant portion of that would be shared with (what would then have to be) an entire show's writing/producing staff? (not to mention to some degree the actors)
And a series that has only gotten further and further away from really bothering trying to connect with the cinematic universe with each additional season?
sounds kinda fishy.

@MalseMarcel @CaptCoulson- supposedly Loeb and Feige communicate
bkmeijer2
bkmeijer2 - 1/17/2019, 2:11 AM
@HeavyMetal4Life - To be honest I think that communication is very limited. Season 5 didn’t deal with Infinity War’s aftermath and Feige doesn’t seem to acknowledge the shows at all
HeavyMetal4Life
HeavyMetal4Life - 1/17/2019, 5:38 AM
@MalseMarcel - theres not much of a reason for season 5 to deal with the aftermath. No show deals with the aftermath. That's for the movies yo address.

@HeavyMetal4Life - I meant more of how the snap affected the show. I think three episodes were released after Infinity War, and with prior episodes released after a movie they did tie into the movie. But guess we'll see how it ties into season 6
HeavyMetal4Life
HeavyMetal4Life - 1/17/2019, 5:58 AM
@MalseMarcel - only the end of the finale (the last several scenes) occurs after the snap.

I'm actually kind of shocked at how quickly my interest has diminished in this show, but at least gotta give it up for Agent Piper being adorable as all get out

@CaptCoulson - tbh once i finally realized none of these shows are actually in the mcu I lost all interest. There are lots of other great tv shows.
CaptCoulson
CaptCoulson - 1/16/2019, 4:07 PM
@StarlordsDad - well in the beginning, at least, it was. Very MUCH so, it's like the entire second half of season 1 was designed to go hand in hand with The Winter Soldier.
That's why I had so much fun with (insert bit of shameless self-promotion here) the extended edit I made a few years ago, where I took all of Winter Soldier and spliced it back and forth in chronological order with the most relevant portions of the last 7 episodes of AoS season 1, to make a 4 hour movie all around the discovery of and beginning of the "Hydra War". It got the most play of any fan edit stuff I've ever done.
