Marvel's Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s first season recently came to a close, and despite getting off to a slow start built towards and explosive finale that left fans longing for more. The star of the show, Clark Gregg, recently took part in a Reddit 'Ask Me Anything' where he hinted at a plot point for season two, whilst also perhaps teasing a few other elements, one fans have been particularly speculating about...
Amongst questions related to his recently released movie, Trust Me, Gregg was asked a number of questions about his role as Phil Coulson, Agent Director of S.H.I.E.L.D., in season two of Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.. When asked whether Coulson ever got his vintage Captain America trading cards signed, Gregg responded “That's a very good question. If I were you, I would check out Season 2 of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Is this a clue that we could be seeing Cap in Season 2? It would certainly make sense that Cap would try and recruit his biggest idol to his new S.H.I.E.L.D. organisation.
When asked about his current favourite Marvel book he went on to say that “I'm really digging Secret Warriors”, which wouldn’t be a bad book for the second season to take a few ques from. He also went on to say that his favourite moments of the first season were “a toss-up between being handed my old gun from The Avengers, being told by Nick Fury that I (Coulson) was an Avenger, or moments later, when I received the title "Director Coulson." Finally, Gregg was asked who he would play if he could portray any other character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. His response? “Captain Marvel”. For those unaware, there was a lot of speculation that Coulson would in fact become Captain Marvel at some point, with fan theories running wild for quite a while. Is this Gregg poking fun at this idea, or is there a little more to this? Is he just genuinely a fan of the character? Probably, but regardless, it’s fun to speculate.
There's a lot more to the AMA and Im sure you could probably find another few teases if you read carefully into what he says, although a number of Gregg's other answers were very tongue-in-cheek and not all taht informative. Still, it's better than nothing, and gives us a little indication as to where the next season will go. And that Captain Marvel comment has to mean something.
Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. stars Clark Gregg as Agent Phil Coulson, Ming-Na Wen as Agent Melinda May, Brett Dalton as Agent Grant Ward, Chloe Bennet as Skye, Iain De Caestecker as Agent Leo Fitz and Elizabeth Henstridge as Agent Jemma Simmons, and will return this Fall for a second season, before the premiere of Marvel's Agent Carter.
