SDCC '13: First Look At Cobie Smulders As 'Maria Hill' In AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D

The pilot to The Avengers follow-up, Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D has been kept under tight wraps, but now it's been revealed that Cobie Smulders will appear in the pilot and beyond. See Maria Hill's new look and comments from Whedon!

It was just revealed during the Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D panel at San Diego Comic Con that How I Met Your Mother star Cobie Smulders will not only appear in the show's pilot, but also become a recurring guest star on the ABC show. Commenting on the casting, Whedon said "I wanted very much to have Cobie in the pilot because as much as anyone else, she IS SHIELD!". Continuing on Cobie's SHIELD=-centric role, Whedon also commented on her chemistry with star Clark Gregg. "She’s cool and commanding, and has the dry humor that plays so well with Clark’s. Also, if she’s in it I get to hang out with Cobie."

This somewhat comes as no surprise as Cobie's voice could be heard in several Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D promotional trailers talking to Agent Ward. Are you excited to see Cobie reprise her role as Maria Hill consistently?

UPDATE! Thanks to TVGuide, we know a little more about Maria Hill's appearance.
In the pilot, Coulson believes he died briefly, but was revived shortly after. None of The Avengers could know the truth since they don't have the right clearance level. But when he's not around, Maria Hill notes that Coulson can never know the truth about his death, possibly giving credence to our theory about Coulson being a Life Model Decoy. Whedon has previously noted that the mystery behind Coulson's revival will unfold throughout the season, so don't expect an answer soon!

I gotta feeling she is the one who's leading the S.H.I.E.L.D. Stike team against Cap and the other good guys. I remember set reports described the leader as a female with dark, long hair.

So hot in that picture

And Im loving this, she will be the main connection between the movies and the tv show, as I doubt Coulson will ever be featured in the movies again. So we will see Cobie pop up as Maria in Cap 2 and probably Avengers 2 while also being a recurring character in Agents Of SHIELD, loving this

Once she is done with HIMYM (which should have ended with Season 8), she might get a slightly bigger role in a potential Season 2

Nice to have her on the show.
What I really like is the classic SHIELD eagle on the wall.
The Ultimates style eagle on uniforms are bland.

I think her Maria Hill will work much better on the small screen. I really love Cobie on HIMYM, but she seemed a little out of her depth on THE AVENGERS, especially in the deleted opener and closer.

I'm hoping she becomes a permanent cast member once HIMYM ends.

She was actually one of the very few things that disappointed me about The Avengers. I didn't feel like she was Maria Hill at all. Hopefully this will give her more character development time.

It must be some dyslexic site, because I don't think she even got $1 million for Avengers. Considerably less, because she was paid less than both Evans and Hemsworth, and I don't think either of them cleared $1 million on Avengers either.

When $20 million is still a big fat payday that very few actors enjoy anymore, it'd be shocking for her to get $30. RDJ got $50 and that's only because of the backend deal he signed.
