DAREDEVIL And The Rest Of THE DEFENDERS Could Still Get Movies...If They're Popular On Netflix

Some fans were more than a little disheartened to learn that Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and Jessica Jones would be heading to Netflix instead of their local theatre, but the good news is that the door is still open for that to happen should the series' prove to be a success.

A question about Marvel's deal with Netflix came up during the Disney shareholders conference call today, and Jay Rasulo (Senior Executive VP and CFO of the The Walt Disney Company) had this to say about the chances of "The Defenders" still getting a chance to shine on the big screen after debuting on the small one. "Marvel has thousands of characters...and it is not possible to mine them all with filmed entertainment. While these characters are attractive characters they are not among the most popular… it’s not likely we would have made feature films about them...though if they are popular on Netflix, they could become feature films." It would certainly make sense to reintroduce audiences to the likes of Daredevil, and it's possible that Netflix will cast big enough stars (see: House of Cards) to make the jump to movies for these characters a legitimate possibility. What do you guys think?

Daredevil is popular with comic readers, but the Affleck film probably made it much harder to try another film. He's not like Hulk, where Marvel can probably do pretty well with their own version after another studio took a shot at it.

Having a Daredevil show is the best way to reintroduce the character to audiences, get them to enjoy the flavor. THEN, yeah, a movie would make more sense.

Also, given the statement "the epic will unfold over multiple years of original programming", leads me to believe these four shows are only the beginning. and then, yes, Punisher, Moon Knight, etc, will probably either be introduced as guest stars in those shows, and/or get their own later on.

I agree I think that Daredevil and Heroes for Hire would do great on screen. Just give Heroes for Hire the right director and it's a go!

Just hope that Daredevil gets a serious tone. Not "dark and gritty" but just "serious".

Daredevil movie? Yes please, and I'd also like a Punisher show if you could do that. Thanks Marvel.

Curb your enthusiasm. Everyone. This could go from medicore (AOS) to really good. We still don't know what Marvel's up to.

Something tells me that none of those show will end up being darker and serious.

Love to see Daredevil return to the big screen and if it is by way of tv, then so be it. I think Heroes for Hire would do well on big screen after some small screen time! Jessica Jones however, is going to be relegated to small screen only, but if they change the last name to Drew, Bam! Spider-Woman ready for the movie!

I think fans should be happy enough that these characters are making a live-action appearance at all, and will help to expand the MCU.

If they get quality actors and show runner I'd say these characters will do much better in TV. Especially my favorite of all time DD. If they can't though and it's on the level of SHIELD, I'll be very disappointed

DAREDEVIL!!

I'm so excited for this. Imagine Damian Lewis, Michael C. Hall, Matt Bomer, or maybe Chris Gorman... but he already plays one blind character. Probably wouldn't want to get type cast, however his performance would sell the blind aspect well.

Just keep us up to date on new releases. This is a good idea and I had asked some folks at DC about doing something like this in a panel last year.

Good. Although i liked the Daredevil(directors cut). The movie itselft needs a reboot. Id also like to see New Punisher movie. :)

Plus if they gonna tell the stories about Hell's Kitchen they will probably need to update it a bit. I don't think Hell's Kitchen is exactly the same place it used to be.

They will probably need to change the location.

Can't wait for this, perfect chance for Michael C. Hall as Murdock!
I do think the Punisher will be Season One's main antagonist, later becoming partners.

@Gold

i could see Hell's Kitchen being a normal place to live. Then we could have the Kingpin who's crimes are draging this place down. So the Hell's Kitchen is fastly becoming the place it used to be.
