DAREDEVIL And The Rest Of THE DEFENDERS Could Still Get Movies...If They're Popular On Netflix
Some fans were more than a little disheartened to learn that Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and Jessica Jones would be heading to Netflix instead of their local theatre, but the good news is that the door is still open for that to happen should the series' prove to be a success.
A question about Marvel's deal with Netflix came up during the Disney shareholders conference call today, and Jay Rasulo (Senior Executive VP and CFO of the The Walt Disney Company) had this to say about the chances of "The Defenders" still getting a chance to shine on the big screen after debuting on the small one. "Marvel has thousands of characters...and it is not possible to mine them all with filmed entertainment. While these characters are attractive characters they are not among the most popular… it’s not likely we would have made feature films about them...though if they are popular on Netflix, they could become feature films." It would certainly make sense to reintroduce audiences to the likes of Daredevil, and it's possible that Netflix will cast big enough stars (see: House of Cards) to make the jump to movies for these characters a legitimate possibility. What do you guys think?
