DAREDEVIL Star Charlie Cox's New Netflix Series TREASON Includes An Unexpected Marvel Easter Egg

Many of you will know Charlie Cox best for playing the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Man Without Fear, but his new series Treason features a fun nod to Daredevil. See that, and the actor's response, here!

While we're all very excited about Charlie Cox's future as Daredevil in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there are plenty of other projects the actor is working on. Among them is the new Netflix series Treason, a spy drama from Bridge of Spies writer Matt Charman.

Cox plays Adam Lawrence, an MI6 officer who is accused of being a double agent, leaving him to prove his innocence.

It's an enjoyable watch in what's proven to be a busy twelve months for the actor with appearances as the Man Without Fear in Spider-Man: No Way Home and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. Most of his 2023 will be spent shooting Daredevil: Born Again, of course, but if you tuned into Treason this week, you may have spotted a fun Marvel Easter Egg.

In episode three, Lawrence is spending an evening at home with his wife Maddy de Costa (Oona Chaplin), daughter Ella (Beau Gadsdon) and son Callum (Samuel Leakey).

They're playing that game where you stick the name of a person or character on your head and then guess who you are by asking questions. Cox's character is Cleopatra, but his daughter is Spider-Man! This has to be a nod to Daredevil's history with the web-slinger, and the fact the Treason star appeared in last December's Spider-Man: No Way Home.

However, we're not sure we can forgive the team working on the show for spelling "Spider-Man" as "Spiderman" (yes, the hyphen matters).

During a recent interview with Digital Spy, Cox actually reacted to the Easter Egg by saying, "Yeah, I remember making a joke about that," he laughed. "I remember saying, 'Well, this is something that a very niche set of fans is going to love.'"

Take a closer look at Treason's Marvel nod below.

Will watch because of Charlie. My gf loves these sort of run of the mill espionage-political shows too. Looks like a quick binge on a Sunday.

@GhostDog - same here. But I also read it's akin to Bodyguard, so that's definitely an added bonus for me

@bkmeijer1 - oh shit now that’s nice. Bodyguard is one of the best shows Netflix has ever done

@GhostDog - don't give Netflix too much credit. Think it was a BBC production first and foremost.

That said, it's indeed one of the best shows on Netflix (together with Godless).

@GhostDog - You might wanna watch Treason then on Netflix. Espionage and Charlie.

@AC1 - I did look that up. There's a character in marvel called Robert Goldman. While he doesn't have the alter ego of gold-man, he does have powers that involve him becoming a gold man. So technically it exists.

Thaaaaat's not an easter egg is it? If the name was Daredevil then I think it would be.

This is nothing.

@TheManWithoutFear - Yea, I'm sure it has nothing to do with Spider-Man being the most popular hero in the world.

@TheManWithoutFear - Right. Spider-Man was also mentioned in an episode of Friends. I wouldn't call that an Easter egg, even if Charlie Cox or someone else was in it.

@TheManWithoutFear - wouldn't be surprised if that was in the script before cox was even cast.

@TheManWithoutFear - yeah that's what I was thinking. Spider-Man is as pop culture now as Superman. Now if his was She- Hulk too then we're getting to a nod. Pretty decent show though. I am on the last episode now. I can't wait for season 2 of Kin. That's a great series Cox is the lead in about the Ireland mob. Highly recommend if that genre interests u

@TheManWithoutFear - It's kind of a contextual Easter Egg. If it were another show that didn't have an actor involved in a Marvel project (Like Friends) then it'd just be a pop culture reference, but since it's Charlie Cox who happened to play a character that directly interacted with Spider-Man then it becomes a low tier reference.

I wouldn't call this an Easter egg...

Mike and Charlie seem to be doing fine post Defenders. Mike has been over at Paramount, S4 of Evil coming soon. Not to mention his action blockbuster dropping top of the yr. And Charlie is doing this and rebooting DD.

@Chuck420Taylor - wonder if they'd bring him back as Locke in the halo games.
