Sam Wilson didn't suit up as Captain America until The Falcon and The Winter Soldier's finale, but it proved to be worth the wait. Anthony Mackie looked awesome in the costume, and it took no time at all for us to buy into the hero being a fitting successor to Steve Rogers in the MCU.
A lot of effort clearly went into creating the suit (which, in storyline, was made by the Wakandans), and Marvel Studios Head of Visual Development Ryan Meinerding has now revealed some of the work he did on it. "Captain America! I was lucky enough to design Sam’s look for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier Disney+ series," he says. "This is my concept art from the show!"
Looking ahead to the future, Mackie is expected to reprise the role of Captain America in a solo movie. The Falcon and The Winter Soldier Head Writer Malcolm Spellman is penning the screenplay alongside Dalan Musson, though there's no word on a release date or director at this point.
We're expecting Sebastian Stan to join him as Bucky, and in terms of the lead villain, Power Broker is one possibility. However, more Zemo would be welcomed after his return on Disney+.
In our review of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, we said: "Inconsistent storytelling and weak lead villains aside, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier is a hard-hitting and action-packed new chapter in the MCU mythos which delivers an insightful and impactful exploration of what it means for a Black man to be Captain America."
