THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER Concept Art Features Closer Look At Sam Wilson's Captain America Suit

Marvel Studios Head of Visual Development Ryan Meinerding has shared a new batch of concept art from The Falcon and The Winter Soldier highlighting Anthony Mackie's Captain America costume. Check it out!

Sam Wilson didn't suit up as Captain America until The Falcon and The Winter Soldier's finale, but it proved to be worth the wait. Anthony Mackie looked awesome in the costume, and it took no time at all for us to buy into the hero being a fitting successor to Steve Rogers in the MCU.

A lot of effort clearly went into creating the suit (which, in storyline, was made by the Wakandans), and Marvel Studios Head of Visual Development Ryan Meinerding has now revealed some of the work he did on it. "Captain America! I was lucky enough to design Sam’s look for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier Disney+ series," he says. "This is my concept art from the show!"

Looking ahead to the future, Mackie is expected to reprise the role of Captain America in a solo movie. The Falcon and The Winter Soldier Head Writer Malcolm Spellman is penning the screenplay alongside Dalan Musson, though there's no word on a release date or director at this point.

We're expecting Sebastian Stan to join him as Bucky, and in terms of the lead villain, Power Broker is one possibility. However, more Zemo would be welcomed after his return on Disney+.

In our review of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, we said: "Inconsistent storytelling and weak lead villains aside, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier is a hard-hitting and action-packed new chapter in the MCU mythos which delivers an insightful and impactful exploration of what it means for a Black man to be Captain America."

Such an impractical and illogical, yet somehow iconic and beautiful suit. It makes no sense... but I love it.

I think the torso part looks kinda like a vest worn on top of the normal suit. Other than that, I really like this design

HOT TAKE: I have never liked this suit, even in the comics; imo it just seemed like a lazy recolour of his old outfit tbh. You might as well have a big sign that says PLACEHOLDER on it.

p.s Although that being said, I think that it would be greatly improved by giving him a Captain America-style helmet to better solidify him as the new Cap imo.

In execution, it was a little too baggy and I never liked the leather jacket texture for Superhero costumes. But in concept it looks absolutely beautiful.

I will miss Steve Rogers in the MCU.. He's way more interesting than Sam Wilson.

I liked the Falcon and Winter Soldier series. It was a little slow at times but they had some cool Buddy cop moments and great action scenes. I liked Sam’s Captain Falcon suit, it was a good mix of the comic book suit and Caps suit from the previous Avengers movies. I think in the second season Bucky should get a chance to be Cap if Sam gets hurt or something.

If only he had a helmet while flying. Maybe they can do one of those automatic cgi helmet removals, or its some kind of force field, but my guy needs a helmet when he flies. It makes no sense.

ALOT OF PEOPLE THAT I KNOW WANTED BUCKY TO PICK UP THE SHIELD, THEY WERE PRETTY UPSET ABOUT IT, BUT I KEPT TELLING THEM "NO NO, IT'S OKAY! IT HAPPENED IN THE COMICS, AND IT COULD'VE BEEN A TOSS UP. EVERYTHING IS GOING TO BE ABOSLUTELY AMAZING!"
AND THEN WHEN HEARD THERE WAS A SHOW COMING OUT ABOUT SAM WILSON BECOMING THE CAPTAIN AMERICA, DURING A TIME PERIOD WHERE THE WORLD IS COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY DIFFERENT AND NEW AND CHANGED. OOOOH MYYYY GOSH!!!! I WAS THRILLED!!!!! IT WAS THE MOST ANTICIPATED PART ABOUT PHASE 4 IN MY HOUSE. BUT, IT WAS ABSOLUTELY DISAPPOINTING.

THEY MISSED SO MANY OPPORTUNITIES TO MAKE THE SHOW BETTER.
fOR EXAMPLE....

1. BUILDING THE NEW WORLD AFTER THE SNAP -- THIS COULD'VE BEEN A BEEN THE HUGE RIPPLE EFFECT INTO MANY ASPECTS. GRAPPING THE AUDIENCE, A HUGE CHALLENGE AND OBSTACLE FOR SAM AND BUCKY, A SENSE OF HOPELESSNESS FOR ALL MANKIND. THEY COULD'VE DEVELOPED A WORLD THAT WAS DARK, VERY ADULT LIKE WITH VARIOUS UNDERGROUND GANGS AND VILLIANS ON THE RISE. THEY DID IN A SENSE BUT IT WAS VERY UNDERWELMING.

2. THE LEGACY OF THE SHIELD, INSTEAD OF RACE BIAS. -- THIS WAS THE PART THAT REALLY!!!!! MADE THE SHOW ABSOLUTELY UPSETTING AND UNWATCHABLE AT TIMES. AFTER 22 FILMS AND 10 YEARS OF WHAT THE SHIELD MEANT TO THE ENTIRE WORLD AND WEIGHT BEHIND IT. IT WAS THE GOLDEN TICKET INTO THE ENTIRE STORY, WE ALL KNOW THAT WEIGHT AND THAT UNBELIEVABLE RESPONSIBILITY THAT SHIELD CARRIES. NOW ADD ON THE WORLD GOING UNDER (IF THEY WOULD'VE BUILT IT CORRECTLY), YOU WOULD HAVE GIVEN SAM THE CHANCE TO BECOME A TRUE HERO, AND A TRUE RISING INSPRIRATION TO EVERYONE.

OVERALL....WITH THE EXAMPLES I'VE GIVEN ABOVE...THIS SHOW WAS ABSOLUTELY CRAPPY AND I COULD TELL THEY TRIED TO FOLLOW A TRENDY MAIN STREAMED MEDIA FOLLOWING, INSTEAD OF DEVELOPING A MASSIVE HIT AND AN AMAZING START TO A NEW LEADER OF THE AVENGERS.
