THE FALCON & THE WINTER SOLDIER Merch Confirms The Identity Of Erin Kellyman's Flag-Smasher

The recent trailer for Marvel's The Falcon and The Winter Soldier gave as a glimpse behind the mask of Erin Kellyman's villainous Flag-Smasher, and the character's identity has now been confirmed.

It was widely speculated that Solo: A Star Wars Story actress Erin Kellyman would be playing Flag-Smasher in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier when we first learned that she'd joined the cast of the Disney+ series, and that was confirmed (just in case the mass of red curls didn't give it away) when we saw the character unmask in the recent Super Bowl trailer.

Now, the identity of this first live-action take on the Marvel Comics villain has been revealed.

In the comics, Flag-Smasher's real name is Karl Morgenthau, and some official TFATWS Zazzle merch has now confirmed that Kellyman will indeed be playing a gender-switched interpretation of that same character named Karli Morgenthau.

Morgenthau was the leader of an anti-nationalist organization known as ULTIMATUM (Underground Liberated Totally Integrated Mobile Army to Unite Mankind) in the source material, and while Karli is sporting a very different costume, it looks like she will take on a similar role in the Disney+ series.

It remains to be seen what part Flag-Smasher and her army will play in Zemo's machinations, but we do know one thing from the trailer: She kicks Bucky's ass at some point!

Marvel Studios’ “The Falcon and The Winter Soldier” stars Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson aka The Falcon, and Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes aka The Winter Soldier. The pair, who came together in the final moments of “Avengers: Endgame,” team up on a global adventure that tests their abilities—and their patience. Directed by Kari Skogland with Malcolm Spellman serving as head writer, the series also stars Daniel Brühl as Zemo, Emily VanCamp as Sharon Carter, and Wyatt Russell as John Walker.

TFATWS is set to premiere on Disney+ on March 19.

Interesting - Admittedly I know nothing at all about Flag Smasher's history or story-lines.

Is the character of Flag Smasher in the comic just a soldier/activist or a powered individual?

If I had to guess is that it's Zemo empowering Flag Smasher and her army and possibly even manipulating the government into making John Walker the next Captain America.

Hoping for an interesting take on nationalism

@BlackBeltJones - Yeah, except Flag-Smasher's ideology revolves around anarchy.

@BlackBeltJones - I think it will be a revolutionary movement focused on fighting American patriotism and its symbols.

Something similar to the anarchist movement.

@soberchimera - he's anti-nationalism and patriotism is what I mean. He uses terrorism to spread anti-nationalist sentimentality.

She will attack nationalism and I am interested to see how that explores her take on it.

I still think she will turn out to be related to Red Skull.

@HydraB0b -
I'm expecting her to be Bucky Barnes' daughter or great granddaughter or something similar.

Shit a few countries could use some flag smashin lately. It would be cool if by the end of the series ultimatum overthrows the u.s. government. After they are stopped by sam(cap by the end of the series) it could leave a power vacuum in america that allows dark reign to occur. Just a thought
