INHUMANS Showrunner Reveals New Details On Black Bolt, Medusa, AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. Connections And More
We got our first official look at Marvel's Inhumans series earlier today, and now showrunner Scott Buck spills some more details on what viewers can expect from Black Bolt and his Royal Family...
EW unveiled the first official image from Marvel's Inhumans earlier on, but their accompanying interview with showrunner Scott Buck (Iron Fist) was also quite revealing.
Buck addressed several persistent fan queries about the show, including its connection to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. ("we all inhabit the same universe, so things that have happened on S.H.I.E.L.D. will potentially affect our show as well"), and whether Medusa will have her prehensile hair from the comics (she will... and it was very difficult to achieve). However, it's his explanation of how Black Bolt will be depicted that's sure to be of most interest.
In the comics, the Inhuman King is capable of unleashing great devastation with a single word, so it goes without saying that he's not exactly a keen conversationalist. According to Buck, the show will work around this by having the character use sign language, but he also seems to suggest that Bolt may employ a more comic-accurate method of communication.
"It’s a little bit difficult to write him, because Black Bolt does not speak, but yet he is our hero and he is the center of the show, so it does certainly present challenges in how you tell his story, but fortunately we came up with a really good story. Anson is terrific. I think everyone’s going to be very pleased and excited by his Black Bolt. We’re not doing voice over. If you read the comics, you see Black Bolt does find a way to communicate to people, but he’s also a very enigmatic character as well, and he keeps a lot inside. That’s part of what’s so fascinating about him is that a lot of times, we don’t know what he’s thinking."
There's a definite hint that Black Bolt will be telepathic here, but it also sounds like Mount will indeed be playing role (mostly) mute.
