More Marvel TV Shows Are Coming To ABC Reaffirms Jeph Loeb As AGENTS OF SHIELD Sets Its NYCC Panel
Agent Carter. Agents of SHIELD. Inhumans. It seems there'll be a fourth (and possibly more) live-action Marvel television show coming to ABC soon, per Executive VP of Marvel Television, Jeph Loeb.
There's going to be more Marvel TV shows coming to ABC reiterates Jeph Loeb, in response to a question that the company's television division may be looking to develop a new central hub at Netflix (The Defenders) or on Fox/FX (The Gifted, Legion). Logically, with ABC and Marvel both being owned by Disney, ABC will always the be the central home of Marvel live-action programs. In an interview with CBR to promote Inhumans, Loeb states:
"Absolutely [more Marvel shows are coming to ABC]. Absolutely. Obviously, these aren’t things I can talk about. But look, as it is with every single one of the networks that we have gotten with that this is with, and whether it’s Fox or it’s FX or it’s Freeform, or it’s Hulu, or it’s Netflix, ABC is always going to be our mothership…It is a Disney-owned network. We are a Disney-owned corporation and we’re a good fit for each other.
We speak a lot of the same language and the kinds of things that are important to them, which is people rising up again adversity; real emotion; a strong female character, but also a strong sense of family and questions of identity…All of those things are key to being a successful ABC show, but they’re also key to being a Marvel show. So in that way we’re going to go and see what happens along the way.
What [ABC] got excited about Marvel’s Inhumans was the family drama aspect of it and the possibilities of something that had a big epic feel to it, but at the same time something that was small and intimate enough that they could get an audience hooked on it and so that’s where we started."
Recently, it's been revealed that a Jessica Jones-esque program is in development at ABC and that the long-gestating John Ridley project will either finally move forward or be cancelled. In regards to the first project, fans are speculating that ABC might be looking bring another female Marvel detective to live-action television, Dakota North while others are theorizing that the Jessica Jones project will be centered around investigative journalist Sally Floyd.
As for Ridley's project, the longest running rumor is that he's developing a drama for the new Inhuman Ms.Marvel, Kamala Khan.
Perhaps we'll learn more details about these two projects at NYCC, where Agents of SHIELD is set to have a panel on October 07 at 2PM.
